First Cruise-Celebrity Century to E Carribean
This is our first cruise. As my wife and I did not have a honeymoon 15 years ago, this trip is planned to make up for not having one. We are planning the suite w/veranda. Is the suite worth the extra money? Will we be spending too much money? It seems many people say don't overspend on the cabin.

It depends on how much time you intend to spend in your cabin. If you want to be alone together, then it might be worth it to you. There's always so much going on all over the ship, I've always wondered the big attraction to balconys/verandas but some people say it's the only way to go. My husband and I have been on 15 cruises (#16 tomorrow!) and have never had a veranda or balcony and have still always had a great time. I guess it's just a matter of personal taste. If you'd enjoy having a butler, meals in your cabin and that pampered service, then definately go for it If those things aren't important to you, you might be able to enjoy yourselves just as much with an outside cabin and save some money. We'd rather spend less and be able to cruise more often but only you can decide what will make the cruise special for you.

By the way, you've made a GREAT choice with Celebrity. We've been on them 3 times (going again tomorrow on the Zenith) The food and service is outstanding and you'll have a wonderful first cruise experience.

(1 Day till Bermuda ! ! !)

On a normal basis, I usually say don't bother with the suite/verandah. But, this is your HONEYMOON!!! So go ahead and splurge - it will help make the trip extra special. And for an occasion like this, you should be pampered and enjoy the perks that come with a suite. A verandah is a very romantic accessory and is best for early morning breakfasts and late evening champagne toasts. Another fun thing to do in suite is to host a cocktail party - maybe with your dinner tablemates and/or other fun people you meet on-board (if you plan a party, check with the purser's desk before you schedule the party, since you'll want to avoid a night that already has a cocktail party like the Captain's welcome; plus, you may be invited to one as a suite occupant and you won't want a conflict with anything you arrange for your suite.) Live it up this time - you can always stay in a regular cabin on future cruises!

The Cat. 2 with veranda is not a suite and doesn't come with a butler or suite services. On the Century there are only a few Cat. 2 cabins, but on the Galaxy and Mercury there is a whole deck's worth of them. Also, the Century has Cat. 1 "mini-suites" whereas the Mercury and Galaxy don't even have a Cat. 1 cabin offered.

Personally, I think the idea of a veranda is very appealing, and I already have my Cat. 2 booked on the Mercury! I like the idea of having a private place to read, have a drink, or just watch the world go by for a little while. Afterall, I'm on vacation!

As far as spending too much on a suite, that is a very personal decision. We decided the expense of the suite wasn't worth the extra service since we wouldn't use a butler much. No matter what you decide, you'll have a fantastic time and will enjoy every moment of your trip.
