Cruises for singles
Does anyone know of a cruise for middle aged singles? My brother would like to go on a cruise but he has no one to travel with. Most cruises he has looked into mainly cater to couples.
Thanks.
Thanks.

I just received an email today from www.vacationstogo.com regarding singles cruises.
Hope it helps!

Most of the cruises that are overtly singles-oriented aim for a younger crowd. The trick is to find a cruise with a low or no single supplement--that's where the single cruisers will congregate. I've cruised solo on Radisson Seven Seas a few times--drawn by the interesting itineraries, great service, and relatively low single supplement, and have met plenty of other singles my age (yes, I'm middle aged) there. Plenty of couples too, but the singles and couples seem to mix very nicely in that setting.

Crys, I would be interested in learning more about Radisson Seven Seas for singles. How do they handle dining for singles? Do they have assigned seating? Or do you have to first find people on your own with whom to enjoy dining? I love cruising, particularly with interesting itineraries, but my experience has always been to cruise with a partner. As a middle aged single woman I have been hesitant to go alone. I would appreciate learning whatever you can tell me about the experience.

RSSC is open seating, which means that you are not assigned a table. The maitre d's are very good and experienced at seating singles. When you arrive to dinner, he'll ask if you want to be seated at a large table (usually 8 people; sometimes 6). Say yes. Among that many people, you'll find compatible company. Often there's other singles at the table--sometimes it's an all-singles table. My experience has been that by the second or third night others will be inviting you to join them, sometimes leaving a message with the maitre d, sometimes just asking you. But if that doesn't happen, he'll still seat you with a mixed group. It's all very seamless. Sometimes some at the table will already have begun dinner; sometimes you'll have started and others join you. But somehow it always works without the slightest hint of awkwardness. Whatever you do, don't take a cruise with set seating. I did once (on HAL), and will never do it again. The chances of misery for tablemates are too high.
