If you want to learn something about the history of the area, a visit to the Mayan Ruins at Tuluum is a very interesting excursion and all of the guides are excellent. The view alone is worth the trip. It usually takes a 1 hour bus ride to get there from Playa del Carmen. You take a 45 minute ferry ride back to Cozumel.

The sailing trip on the "FURY", which is a sailing catamatan. It involves some good snorkeling at a reef, then some time at a private beach, with complementary floats, etc., and concludes with a nice one hour sail back to the cruise dock. The alchohol flows freely after the conclusion of the snorkeling. Great service by a friendly and energetic crew. I'd go again in a New York Minute!! Have fun!!

I cruised through Cozumel April 98 and did a jeep safari tour. It was wonderful. You get your own jeep and 4-wheel through some trails along the coast. You stop at some Mayan ruins for a brief lecture and drive to a nearby gorgeous, private beach for swimming, sunning and a delicious Mexican lunch. It was new when I did it so I hope it's still available.
