Carnival Legend "suicide"
 

What's everyone's take on this? First report was suicide, now the spouse says that it was not a suicide. He either jumped/fell off his balcony after an argument with his wife about his bar tab that was overheard by neighbors.

Is she alleging that he was murdered? Or that he simply fell off the balcony? (that would be pretty difficult to do accidentally.)

Not difficult to fall off the balcony if you are drunk, especially if you are sitting on the railing, or leaning over, and the ship is rolling.

I've seen 20-somethings sitting on the railings while the ship is docked. Can you just imagine the stupid games played while drunk and out at sea?

There were actually 2 cases on 2 different Carnival Ships within a week, one on Inspiration was clearly a suicide.

The ship was 650 miles offshore after leaving Tortola on its return to New York. A 12 search was undertaken without results. WOW! So he jumped and his wife I suppose would watch where he went...and alert people. How do people dissapear so fast around a ships?

I have wondered about Ziana for a long time. Is English a second language? If so, I'm impressed because I have NO second language. Or.........

What most people don't realize is if you jump/are thrown/go over board is that most likely you will be pulled under the ship. Then the props will chew you up. As a dumb teenage, a friend was sitting on the bow (FRONT) of a small motor boat. When they hit a wake she was tossed overboard. She did survive after 172 stitched along her legs where the engine prop hit her. She realized how lucky she was. Still get goose bumbs when I see anyone with feet over the bow!

My DH said that would be the perfect way to get rid of a spouse. Then later he said, "hey honey, for our 25th anniversary, Ive booked us a lovely balcony cabin aboard the s.s. minnow...."

we were planning on this too but with rail going too inward it is not that easy. We couldn't even get rid of drunk person...lol

Read in our morning paper that the family lives 5 min. from us. Wife already has an attorney so she's probably saying he didn't jump of his own free will.

So is she saying that someone came in & pushed him off the balcony while they were arguing, with their children in plain sight & all their neighbors listening?

Or did she get an attorney in case she is charged w/murder? This is very intriguing.

Maybe she's getting an attorney because Carnival continued to serve him drinks when he was obviously already intoxicated????

Whatever it is, she hasn't lost any time. It's been just a few days.

I was actually on this cruise when it happened. I do believe the man jumped since he placed a chair under the railing of the balcony. He had lost all of his money in the casino. We spent 14 hours circiling the Atlantic going 2knots!

My husband & I were discussing how long it might take for the ship to be stopped & turned around. 14 hours must have included that time.

That's an awful story.

There is so much movement around the ships as they cruise along and most of these seem to happen at night...keep it in perspective, you think the Titanic was big ? It was only 46,328 tonnage, while the Carnival Legend is 88,500...The new Royal Caribbean monsters are 160,000 +...I'm sure they get rolled by waves and pulled under quickly, not to mention the fall, especially from a higher deck.

Ships do roll, a matter of fact this was one of the most tuberlant cruises I have been one. Just so happens, the night the man did jump and take his own life, the ship was as smooth as a babys bottom. In addition, he placed a chair under the rail of the balcony and thre himself over. I would like to think that maybe he was being careless and the ship made a sudden movement and tossed him over but that was not the case.
