DH and I will be on Regent Cruise May 2011 which ends at Civitavecchia (Rome) Italy and want to rent a car and drive to Bologna and surround before heading back to Venice for flight home. It was easier and less complicated to fly in and out of Venice (port of embarkation) as we used our air mileage. Is there a car rental agency at the Civitavecchia port or do we need to get to the airport to do that? sometimes it is more expensive when you rent at an airport so we re hoping there is one at the port.

One way car rental is an EXPENSIVE nightmare

but cost it out at tigercarrentals.com good experience

I rent for rural trips but train is awesome city to city

seat61.com/Italy FrecciaArgento fast train was GREAT

Rome to Venice 31/2 hours 78 euro per person in May for me

Go for that easier WAY cheaper less hassle.

you can also bypass Rome if you like on regional trains

Pisa orvieto.info Florence Bologna Venice-tourism

slower but cheaper from a couple of euros per hour

trains are older not as nice though...

Take the train ... one way car rental is expensive regardless of location.

BUT, you miss so much when someone else is driving. We like to stop when we want, go at our own pace... all that being said does anyone know if there is a car rental agency in Civitavecchia (Rome) Italy. I will check out prices. thanks for the tips.....

Hi to Shar from another Shar - we are renting a car from Budget to get us from the port to the hotel near FCO and flying out the next day. We can drop the car off at the airport and the cost minus gas of course is about $60 US.
We got it off one of the other travel sites. The only issue - most of the rental places are closed Sundays.

Good morning to Ontariotrekker: from another soon to be Ontario Trekker . We saw your post, very interested to know what hotel near FCO you stayed at? We are landing FCO 9/15/12 and need hotel near FCO one night only. Then, need to rent car from FCO, for four days, dropping at Civitavecchia (hopefully)to take cruise. What are your suggestions? Sounds like budget allows this? Thank you!
