Bringing drinks on RCCL?

We just got back from a trip on the Nordic Empress, and we brought on board water and sodas (cans). We didn't even attempt to hide the 12-pack of sodas, and carried it pretty openly. We also brought a mini cooler which our cabin steward kept well-iced for us throughout the trip. This was after he summarized the charges for the sodas and water provided in our cabins, too! As for bringing wine, I would assume it would be okay for drinking in your room and possibly even on the pool deck, but I do know that if you bring the bottle into dinner with you, RCCL charges a corkage fee.

Just returned Sunday night from Monarch of the Sea. Didn't seem to be a problem buying sodas, water or liquor at the terminal in San Juan, however, at all other ports, all bags being brought onto the ship were being scanned. (like x-rays at the airport). Obvious bags and boxes of liquor were taken and marked with your cabin number for return at the end of the cruise.

When boarding Sovereign of the Seas in January I carried a small flask-sized bottle of bourbon and a small bottle of Kahlua in my carry-on. The bags were X-rayed at the airport and at the Port of Miami, but nobody said a word to me. I mixed the bourbon in the free iced tea and lemonade (very tasty!) for afternoon drinks and the Kahlua with milk to make sombreros for a nightcap. I didn't drink any alcohol with dinner. <BR>

When we went on Carnival's Celebration last September, we took a 12 pack of diet coke in a bag at check in. The bag was examined but nothing was said (we did get som strange looks though). When we returned from a port, every bag was examined before getting onboard and I saw one (drunk) passenger arguing with security about the 2 bottles of rum he wanted to bring on board. It is the announced and written policy of Carnival to confiscate bottles of liquor and return them at the end of the cruise.
