I suppose that is a possibility. That is one area of the world that going near high summer is a good idea. We were in the area in early June and it was chilly at sea. Outdoor activity on ship was limited. On land the day time temperature was very warm to hot but the nights cooled off quickly. I would guess you are getting a good discount to go in early May.

My husband is a navigator here. He says such thing cannot possibly happen. It's not arctic ice we are talking about. Beginning of May is already warm enough even for Peterhof fountains to start. If You decide to come - You will certainly enjoy the tour.

We had very good experience with a guide in St.Petersburg. She (and husband driver) can do private tours for up to 6. For two, the cost is about the same as the ship's tours.
I'm sure you can get good information about the weather in May from her, particularly if you ask for a quotation on private tours. Try contact at [email protected].
