Alcohol

Last time I went on Princess (2001) we were allowed to bring on (and use) any wine, liquor, beer, etc.
Just received travel documents for next cruise and it says only wine. Does anyone have any experience with how strict they are if your bring a bottle of scotch or something?

Honestly, they never checked. I brought on two bottles of wine in a carry-on. Put one in the frig. and kept the other in a suitcase under the bed and never ended up using it. Maybe people abused and brought on too much. If it was one bottle, I don't see how you would have any trouble.

Do know that many, many bought duty free booze in ports and that had to be delivered to the ship's cargo and could not be hand carried by purchaser. I saw those boxed or bagged purchases labeled and sitting by the doorways of staterooms on the morning our cruise ended.

Just got home from Star Princess and had never cruised Princess before. I never saw anyone bringing on beer, but did see people lugging large ctns of water.

Wine in a box (if you can find some that's decent) travels/packs well. If you're going to bring on other types of alcohol, put it in your checked baggage--not your carry-on.

I also would like to take a bottle on board, and some waters. A friend says they confiscate all booze when embarking. Don't want to lose it. Any other comments?

If you don't want to lose it, don't bring it. If they find it, they will take it. Best odds are to put booze in your checked luggage in a liter bottle of water (or bigger). They rarely find those. However, when I go on my cruise 3/5, I will be packing the cheaper stuff just in case.

While they never really state "why", the bottom line is the bottom line. If you bring on and consume your own alcohol, you won't be buying theirs, which they make a big profit on.

Princess is owned by Carnival (I believe), and they have a "No Alcohol" policy, but will allow wine....so your travel documents seem to match Carnivals policy exactly.

I noticed that Carnival does not say how much wine and is vague in leaving the amount open to be determined by "security".

I'm not aware of any restiction on bringing soft drinks or bottled water on board.

We just sailed on Princess. We took a bottle of vodka and a bottle of wine in our checked luggage. We left them out in full view in our cabin. Nothing was ever said.

We never did open the vodka, because we enjoyed cocktails in the lounge before dinner. We took the wine to dinner one night, and drank it there. I think they charged us corkage, which was fine.

Hello,

We traveled on the Crowne Princess in January. The cruise terminal had a great liquor store (liquor only) with great prices, they also were serving free shots of bailey's and other flavored liqueurs. As many bottles as you can fit in your carry bag you can take on the ship. It was not a problem. We took a bottle of Absolut and Chivas. Have fun!
