Who's been to Beaches Varadero recently?

I'd love to hear from anyone who's been to Beach Varadero recently. Please tell me what you thought about the restaurants, beach & service.
Jennifer

if you are referring to Cuba...do yourself a favor, visit the rest of the island. The hotels are lame and overpriced, and the food is unidentifiable. Of course you'll likely experience that everywhere in Cuba, but at least you can get to know the people and culture--Varadero is a hypocritical, Fidel ripoff.

Jennifer,
My friends vacation in Varadero every year and say that they love it. Last year they stayed at Beaches - said it was a nice resort, but nothing ourstanding - same as the other resorts there. My husband and I just booked a vacation there for March 2002.
Lisa
P.S. We are Canadian - in Cuba you'll find mostly Canadians and people from Europe.

Hi,
My wife and I stayed at Beaches Varadero for two weeks Dec.99. We have mixed reviews. The weather was very nice and Cuba is very historical. The resort on the other hand was not overly impressive. We found the resort still under renovations and the staff and management learning the routine. There were only two restaurants, the Italian which was closed for days at a time and the buffet rest. They only had one wine selection in the buffet rest. which we found in liquor stores for under $2.00 US a bottle. The rooms were kept clean and the bar stocked when promted.
I'm sure the bugs have been worked out...speaking of bugs the sand fleas were very bad and even found a path to the pool.
One thing, expect to tip, the whole Cuba economy is based on US dollars but they pay the workers in the Cuban peso a fraction of the dollar. Making the US dollar sought after.
A holiday is what you make of it so have fun where ever you go.

Hi Jennifer,

I am Canadian and have been to Cuba (legally) but not to VAradero. While I thought the beaches were GORGEOUS and the people INCREDIBLY WARM I must tell you that the food is disgusting. I believe a previous poster used the word "unidentifiable" (too true...). It is incredibly bland and the buffets are very cafeteria-like . The alleged 7 restaurants at my resort all had the same menu and often only 1 or 2 entrees.

If you like all-inclusive and want a gorgeous stretch of beach (and a good price), I highly recommend the Mayan Riviera (have heard good things about the Riu chain).
My wife and I have been to Cuba the last 2 years and love it!This year we stayed at Brisa del Caribe and walked by Beaches varadero a few times they had just about the worst set up on the beach, chairs and palapas all cramed together. If you want Varadero,Breezes Varadero has MANY repeat customers and seems excellent. We also stayed at Superclubs Jibacoa which is great, fantastic food.Cuba is very safe and the people are great, enjoy.bye from Canada.feel free to email me

I stayed at Beaches Varadero last February and thought it was actually very nice. We walked the length of the beach (which really is very beautiful!) and thought Beaches had the nicest stretch. Never any trouble getting a place to sit under the palapas at the beach, or by the pool. Our room, too, was nice. We had a little trouble getting reservations at some of the restaurants some evenings (you have priority if you book the concierge rooms) and found the food overall was okay (not great.) But that's apparently typical of Varadero. Service at Beaches was very good, and the beautiful beach itself made everything worthwhile.
