Where to go for a short break from NYC?
My husband and I want to go away in July for 4-7 days. This will be our first trip without our children in a long time. We live in NY and want to go somewhere relatively close, not too expensive and out of NY (no Hamptons). Any suggestions for Caribbean, Bahamas, Puerto Rico? Thought about Mexico, but long a plane ride. We love the beach, don't care too much if there is gambling, spa is nice and we want on site amenities (ie restaurant, bar).
Please let me know recommendations on places and resorts. Thanks.

Try looking at Bermuda - relatively short flight from NY and in July you'll get all the beauty and activity found on islands that are much further away. Look at The Fairmont, Reefs, Cambridge Beaches, Elbow Beach, Pompano Beach.
Also, check out the Bahamas or the Turks & Caicos - a bit further away by still closer than met Caribbean islands. In the T&C's check out Ocean Club, Ocean Club West, Sands.
You can find loads of resorts at any of those destinations to fit most needs and budgets.

if you want specific recommendations we need to know your specific budget. assume you are willing to fly from jfk, lga or newark?? how do you feel about all inclusive resorts?
fyi: you can fly to cancun from any of above airports in 5-6 hrs. there are some nonstops avail too.

One of the best beaches in the world is direct for you: Turks and Caicos (PLS) Jetblue flies direct out of JFK, Continental flies direct out of Newark. Both take about 3 hours and land before 1, so you get beach time on your first day! Both have TVs in all the seats which make flying nicer.
All the resorts are 15 minutes from the airport, so you're maximizing time.
If you're about the beach, it doesn't get more turquoise than this. Bonus is there's not a bad place to stay, it's a newer destination with modern amenities, and the travel to get there is easy. Perfect combination of what you're looking for.
With a price budget, regardless of what island you choose, we can help further.

Thanks. Mexico is a little too long a flight for what we want. Yes we will fly out of JFK lag or ewr
We like all inclusives. Have heard that Beaches on Turks is nice. I am just concerned that sometimes all inclusives don't have great food or amenities As you can tell I am. It sure what direction to go to (no pun intended). It is a special vacation and I want luxury but need to balance costs. Budget is a out $3000 including air.

Another vote for Turks and Caicos. Possibly the most beautiful beach I've ever seen, excellent accommodations, food, and, as mentioned above, a short non-stop from the New York area.
Just reread your last post. If it's just the two of you, I would NOT opt for Beaches unless you like to vacation with lots of families. There are so many condos/hotels on Turks that would be much nicer for a couple.
