Maja:
There is a tourist kiosk on the waterfront in the Old City. After Pier 1, there is a little parklike setting, where local artisans bring their wares for sale and within is a small tourism structure that has pamphlets and so forth, I believe one has a map. You can begin the walk right from there, keeping the water on your left, city walls on your right, along La Princesa Promenade, to The Arsenal, La Puntila and then proceed past the big fountain to the Old City Gate. Here in this part is where most of the history lies, to the right once inside is La Fortaleza, to the left is Casa Blanca, etc. Left turn on Calle Cristo, brings you to San Juan Cathedral and Ponce de Leon crypt, Pablo Casal Museum, San Jose Church, 500 year memorial, El Morro. From El Morro, left on Calle Norzagary takes you to other museums at Calle MacArthur and further along you are at Fort San Cristobal, etc. Calle San Francisco and Calle Fortaleza for shopping. One other site at the opposite end of Calle Christo, would be La Capella and Parque de Palomas. Allow 9-5 here, as you need a rest stop and some of the sites close for an hour. When I first came here many years ago, I saw the need for a walking tour guide to take people around, but alas it was I who was unemployed and could go in any direction. My wife had a good job and so we returned to N. Y.
Bob K.
