The info that I got is that you need to have 2 forms of ID, but since PR and St. Thomas are considered US territories, you are not "really" leaving the country.

Check with the airline, as there should not be a customs to go through, it would be what the airline requires.

Have a great time.

If you have a passport that is all you need. If you are using a drivers license then you usually need the 2nd piece.

you need proof of citizenship for immigration when leaving st.thomas for the us. it can be a passport or a certified birth certificate accompanied by a photo id like a drivers license since it is a port of entry to the us. you also go through customs on departure since st thomas is a duty-free port but you donot need proof of citizenship for customs just for immigration. there is a challenge in the courts to this ruling since it is us territory but as of last week, airlines and immigration were still requiring photo id and proof of citizenship when traveling stateside.

Sam is correct. You must be able to prove US citizenship when leaving the USVI to return to the mainland US. A passport is of course ideal but immigration will accept a CERTIFIED birth certificate with a photo id such as a drivers license.
If you have your tickets in hand you can go to your local Government offices that issue passports and apply for expedited passport. You pay more for expedited passport than regular passport but with a passport you will have no hassles in travelling anywhere. Other option, go to the Records/Vital Statistics Dept. of the City you were born in and for a nominal fee you can get a certified copy of your birth certificate.
