TRAVELLING TO PUNTA CANA FOR HONEYMOON

OUR CELL PHONE COMPANY DOES NOT HAVE INTERNATIONAL ACCESS. THEY RECOMMEND I PURCHASE A SIM CARD WHEN I ARRIVE AND PUT THAT IN MY PHONE SO THAT WE CAN BE REACHED AND SO WE MAY CALL HOME. IS THIS MY BEST OPTION? WHERE WOULD I BUY ONE? AT THE RESORT?

well i have been there in dominican rep. and if you are not going outside to the streets, because they have phone centers where you can call and then you pay..you might buy a sim car you can find it in the airport...to be secure try to find it there because never knows, in the hotel they might not have it, good try that place is super and the food, no words enjoy it !!!...

Well when I went I were in a hotel the name is IBEROSTAR I will never ever forget that worder it was one of the best, but to be honnest I didn't see a store in the hotel were I could find some sim card so i went outside in the street and asked (the people is super) and i went to call my father then the second time i went ready, in the airport i asked for a store of phone and they helped me, so i could call without any problems and without going outside from the hotel, also in the dominican you can go to the sea on boats....is so nice, in Punta cana also a lot of famous people for example: shakira, beoncey, julio iglesias, oscar de la renta, jenifer lopez, will smith, paris hilton george clooney, and more because these famous people have some houses and some places there so maybe who knows you might see some famous people there keep your eyes open !!!

hi jenjay, my boyfriend and I went to punta cana last year in november and let me just say you are in for a awesome time. the beach is AMAZING. No words can describe what I was feeling when we got to our hotel. we stayed at the majestic colonial and it was a beautiful hotel. my boyfriend and I have US cellular and we had no luck whatsoever w/ a cell phone down there. When we turned on our phones when we landed @ the airport, it was all in spanish and was unable to reach the international operator. however, we did manage after an hour on the hotel phone(never again mind you) we did manage to get thru to wisconsin. unfortunatley, when we returned home, my boyfriends bill was $250.00 for 2 calls home. He used his discover card. I was told an international calling card does no good if theres no cellular service on the island, so I did not bother getting one. I don't know what providewr you have but find out 1st, obviously, before you buy it, if they have service-towers down there. another thing you can do is email home if you can. heck of a lot cheaper. we did a tour down there that I would highly recomend. www.bavarro-runners.com
we went on a full day tour of different parts of the island, plantations, a school (bring the kids school supplies, pens, pencils, paper, crayons, etc...) they are so poor down there they have to share everything, it was a very gratifying experience to bring supplies for these kids. if I knew how to post pictures on here I would show you some of our pictures we took on our trip. Its an all day trip well worth it. I would do it again in a heartbeat. when are you going? how long? I hope you have a wonderful time.

The cellphone has to be unlocked to work with Dominican republic phone companies if the cellphone is blocked then you have to dis blocked first. To buy the sim card you just have to visit a orange shop at Friusa only 100 meter from Texaco gas station in Punta Cana.

Hope this help!!
