If you could spend 2 1/2- 3 weeks on one island in late winter, which one would you choose and where would you stay? (not all-inclusive)
We like hiking,snorkling, not much nitelife or crowds.
Would visiting 2 islands in that amount of time make better sense? (don't want to get bored)
Non-stop flight from NY would be a plus.

In that order for great beaches, amazing snorkelling and wonderful restaurants. Enjoy a after dinner drink on the beach watching the stars - not much night life!

Not sure what your budget is, but if I had to plan this trip, I would stay at an island known for it's beaches and snorkeling, St. John maybe, and then spend the rest of the time at a lush volcanic island, Dominica or Nevis. The latter would provide the hikes and walks through the rainforest.

You'd have the best of the Caribbean that way.

I know people who divide their time between Barbuda--staying on the beach, and Nevis--staying in a plantation house at the edge of the rainforest. Always seemed like a perfect combination.

Lorio, is there enough going on in Grand Cayman to keep us busy for 2 1/2 weeks?

You could split your time between Tortola and Virgin Gorda in the BVI. Tortola is very hilly with decent beaches. VG has both great beaches and some hiking. Also known for snorkelling. You can visit the baths, coppermine ruins etc. There are other day trip options via ferry from both islands (from tortola you can spend a day at Jost Van Dyke and from VG you can visit Anegada). VG is definately quiet and very charming/quaint. Tortola is more developed, great views and no crowds. Travel to Tortola involves a stop over at PR. VG is a quick ferry ride from Tortola. A week or so on each island would be perfect.

I would personally be thrilled with the idea of spending 2-3 weeks on just about any given island in the Caribbean. Some offer more night life than others, and you can find most of the same sporting activities on most islands. Most islands offer you the chance to be as busy or still as you like. That being said, if you're already wondering whether or not you'd be bored with that much time down there, you very well might be. It's such a personal issue that naturally nobody can answer that question accurately for you without more information to go on.

If I could spend 2-3 weeks on a single island, I would be hard put to choose among Jamaica, Grenada, Nevis, Antigua and Bequia, which is about a 5-way tie of my favorite Caribbean islands so far.

With that much time, you wouldn't necessarily have to choose two islands that have ferry schedules between them. Local airline carriers can get you where you need to go effectively and cheaply--check out prices on LIAT, Caribbean Star/Sun, and WinAir to name a few.

Islands like Puerto Rico and Jamaica by their sheer size will offer more things to do on a single island than any place else.

We've now got a slew of islands to choose from. We've been to some of the islands mentioned, but only from cruise ships. Also been to PR.
Now it's time for us to do some homework and make a decision.
