St.Croix, Want romantic hotel

We are just going for a weekend but I want a great room. Doesn't have to be on the ocean, just something romantic. any suggestions???

Hi Helen,
Our favorite place to stay on St. Croix is the Buccaneer Hotel which is about 3 miles east of Christiansted. It's a large resort but is also quite romantic. Their website address is http://www.TheBuccaneer.com. They have a wide variety of rooms to choose from. The oceanview rooms in the Main Bldg. feature excellent panoramic views.
Regards,
Ray

I vote for the Buccaneer too. One of those nice ocean front rooms with the window seat....

Hi all -- Tag teaming with the usual STX crowd.

I agree the Buc is very nice, and especially for its location close to town, but if you want a more remote/private locale, check out the Carambola (web site was sunterra.com, but I heard RCI was about to purchase it; not sure if that happened).

It's quite removed from everything and has a very lush setting. Upstairs rooms are gorgeous with mahogany lined vaulted ceilings and trim throughout, with separate LR and BR areas, fans, screened porch, huge walk-in shower. We loved it. If you want more info, please write to me directly.
Hi -
update: saw on St. Croix Source on-line newspaper this weekend that Wyndham, which was in due diligence to purchase the Carambola, has backed out of the deal. Subsequently, Caram apparently laid off 20 staff. If you're interested in this property, suggest you watch Sunterra's web site, or the St. Croix Source at islands.vi to confirm the current situation there. Sad, that.
Peg

We were very interested in going to the Carambola Beach Resort but have heard really negative things lately due to the uncertainty regarding the property's ownership. Heard the service and property has really gone downhill -- also, it is very far away from everything so might not be a good choice for a weekend. We will probably go to the Buccaneer instead.

Hi Helen -- I think you'll be very happy with the Buccanneer. Very sad about the Carambola! It really was lovely in June... oh well.

If you're interested in some additional STX info, I posted a lengthy trip report (unfortunately, several pages are about the Carambola, but the rest is about beaches, activites, etc.) on caribtravelnews.com, click on "roundup" at bottom of page, then St. Croix. There are a couple other reports there as well that may be of interest with restaurant info, etc.. Have a great trip. Let us know how it goes.
We used to swim at Davis Bay before they built the Carambola.
I'm kinda hoping they just tear it down.
