St. Maarten Question

My husband and I are going to St. Maarten next month for a long awaited anniversary trip. Neither of us has ever been to the Carribean. We have done a time share exchange to Flamingo Beach Resort on Simpson Bay. I keep reading information about how terrible St. Maarten is and now I'm very reticent about going. Anything positive out there? Has anyone stayed at this resort--I would love more infomation about it.

Lois: Don't believe everything you read. You can drive yourself crazy with the "pros and cons" of a destination especially with all that's on the web. My husband and I love St. Martin, but haven't been there in a few years. As with any island, just use your heads and don't put yourself in any unsafe situations. Beaches are great and the food is some of the best in the Caribbean..be sure to visit Grand Case on the French side of the island, which we prefer to the Dutch side. There's plenty to do...shopping, casinos, or just relax! Haven't heard of the Flamingo Beach Resort but we don't stay in time shares. Have a great time and happy anniversary!

Hi,
I'm a timeshare owner and have been looking into St Maarten also.I just wrote and asked a couple who go every year if they know about any of the timeshares I listed (Flamingo was one of them)If and when they get back to me I'd be glad to let you know of their views. They LOVE St Maarten.
Can I ask you how far ahead you planned this trip.I'm wanting to go next Feb and am wondering if it's too late to get a good trade(they're always telling me that people are trading a year in advance)Thanks for any info,
Lisa

Lois:

As a regular visitor to St Maarten, I wouldn't pay too much attention to some of the negative posts.

Dirty; in spots, but not overall.

Dry; well yes it is part of the make-up of the island. Depends entirely on rain.

Bad food/Don't like French; how about Italian, Vietnamese, Thai, Brazilian, Creole.....

Crime; not as bad as made out to be. How many people post an actual account. They just say they felt nervous, or it's what they have heard.

Try these 2 boards as well for more info.

We go to St. Martins a couple of times a year and have stayed at the Flamingo--which is very nice and right on the beach--we have never had any problems--but with every area you go to--you must be careful--never leave anything in a rental car--because alot of the locals have keys--the Flamingo is safe, fun and a very nice resort. Relax and have a good time. Any questions you can e-mail me.
