St Croix
I've heard mixed reviews about St. Croix. My wife and I are planning a trip to the Virgin Islands and had planned on visiting all three islands, but some have told us not to bother with St. Croix whereas some of the stuff I read on St. Croix has been positive. Can someone who has visited all three islands comment please? Thanks

As someone who's lived in the USVI for almost 20 years, I think it's great that you plan to go to all three islands. Each has its own distinct features and they're very different from one another. St. Croix has indeed been getting some bum raps because of crime problems. However, I think much of this has been blown out of proportion. Do some research on www.usvi-on-line.com. The travel forum is a wonderful (and very active) source of information for different perspectives on all three islands. My advice - go for all three islands and you'll have a trip to remember!

Hi, I read all those postings too. In April my family and I rented a condo at Gentle Winds on the North Shore. We found the Island very quiet and fun. I spent each morning at a little donut shop and chatted with the locals, we had some great dinners out, went to buck island and bought braclets by Sonya. The island is very nice and would not hesitate to go back.

i am leaving in 11 days for a week in st. croix at the buccaneer. I cant wait. I have been to st croix twice in the past, once off a cruise ship and once at carambola. Looking foward to go back and stay at the buccaneer. I never thought the island was unsafe, but i will see if the island has changed since my last trip 2 years ago.

We went to St Croix two years ago and stayed at the Buccaneer, for the third time. Loved it! We did notice that Christianstead shopping was not as good as the time before,(2.5 yrs earlier)but still O.K. I think the economy was still recovering from one of the hurricanes that went through there earlier. It's a great island and we didn't notice any problems.
We are thinking of going back for spring break with the kids (6 yrs and 17 mos.) so I am interested in hearing the latest from bobrxlex when you return.
We keep going back because we know the island and that makes it easy when traveling with kids, as does the Buccaneer.

I'm booked for my 21st trip to STX in 53 days!!! The island has a delightful mix of water activities, history, shopping, culture and dining (or doing nothing at all). I am contantly amazed by people tell others "not to bother" with this island. I can only assume that most of them have never been there, or that their tastes are so vastly different from mine that they truly should not have gone there. There is actually less crime than STT and enough room that you will never feel crowded.

To Joanne2, Did I hear you correctly? Did you really visit STX 20 times in 53 days? You must mean your 21st time on the island is coming up. Either way, I'm very jealous.
St. Criox is a hidden gem. The best way to enjoy the island is to explore it. There are so many great hidden spots and beaches like Issac Beach, Shoy, the Cay, and Sandy Point. Hiking is good, history and shopping is good, snorkeling is excellent on Buck Island and Cane Bay. The new casino adds to nightlife. Go for it.

I agree, STX is a safe place to visit.
We rented a car so we could explore the entire island - lovely and green in the north and more barren and dry in the south. They even had a K-mart where we bought snacks and soda much cheaper than at our hotel! Oh - and a KFC just in case you needed to have food from home!!
