Someone advise us!!!

Hi, my fiance and I are a young couple who are wanting to take a fantastic Carribean Honeymoon. Are only problem is where to?? Out of the beautiful islands, which would be the cheapest of them, yet still be fulfilling and beautiful?? Please help us in finding the right place for us to start the rest of our lives.

Cheap and Caribbean Island are two words that just don't go together!

What do you like to do? What sort of activities are you interested in other than the obvious! LOL

Best bang for your buck is usually a cruise. Windjammers are particularly fun, no dressing up.

Hi there, I agree with the other person... the Caribbean islands are not cheap, not matter which one you go to. They are however, bueatiful and worth it, so expect to pay a good dollar for your accommodation and meals.

One thing you may want to consider is an all-inclusive resort like Sandals & Superclubs Breezes.

If you check these out the prices may seem high but remember most included all meals (ususally great food and good selection), watersports, and unlimited drinks (did I mention the drinks are unlimited? you get your money's worth).

A lot of the resort too will arrange for island tours. This may be your best bet as you pay the one price and the only extra money you need to bring is for souveiners and the occasional tours you may want to take.

The Sandal in Jamaica seem to have good reviews from a lot of people on this BB, including me. I stayed at the Sandals Montego Bay and it was wonderful. We had four full-service restaurant and beach snack bar to choose from, a disco and threee bars, including a swim-up pool bar (beleive me, my husband and I ate and drank our moneys worth). I alos hear the Sandals Dunns River and the once on Ochios Rios is good (I think they may be the same).

Whatever you do, you wil love the caribbean.

OK, I agree that Sandals is worth the money -if you have it. We went to St.Lucia which is an island of amazing natural beauty, we stayed at Sandals Halcyon for our honeymoon a couple months ago....and we also ate and drank our money's worth, the food alone was worth it...it was so good!
But...to be more realistic, if you just can't afford it, or can think of a dozen better things to spend that much money on, then....the best deals I've heard of are in
1) Cancun area
2) Cuba
3) Dominican Republic

I have only been to St. Lucia, but a bunch of us are headed to Cayo Coco- Cuba in January for an amazing price (we are both going for cheaper than one to Sandals!)and it is all inclusive and 4 1/2 star....no Sandals but cheaper for sure! It is called Hotel and Club Tryp Cayo Coco and we are going (plane and all included)for $860/per person Canadian $.
Other good buys we looked into were: Casa Del Mar (5star) in Bayahibe, Dominican Republic for around $1100 per person in Jan.

If you would like more information on Sandals Halcyon, just email me.... that is if you decide to 'break the bank' like we did..... but we certainly don't regret a penny's worth!
Good luck, its hard deciding between so many islands! My vote is St. Lucia so far though!

My wife and I went to the Holiday Inn, Montego Bay. The trip was all inclusive and we found the food, drinks, service and all amenities to be top notch. The only thing we found not on sight was a large amount of shopping but even that was only 10 minute taxi away. Highly recommended.
If you are adventuresome, want to save money, want a safe island, and want to avoid the typical resort trappings, go to Culebra. This tiny island is a territory of the USA off of Purerto Rico. It recently suffered a lot of hurricane damage and needs all of the help it can get. In a human sense this is a real and quality island with honest, hard working people. English is understood by most. On the way there you might want to stop in Old Town for a night or two in San Juan. You will get a lot out of a trip like this that money can't buy. If you are two real people getting together for the first time, avoid the resort type of places. If you need pampering, you should not have married in the first place. This will save quanities of money. What you will remember throughout your life is the real experience you have together in the real world. Resorts in the Caribbean are make-believe worlds and when you get to my age they may or may not be attractive. Years ago we went from Caneel Bay to Little Dix to the Dominican Republic and then Haiti. What we really remember is Haiti. We have Haitian art on our walls and a Puerto Rican Santo on our piano. My advice is to start living early. Save your money for other things such as a home and family.

Hi there!

My husband & I went to the Holiday Inn in Montego Bay, Jamica for our honeymoon summer of 1997. For our first anniversary, we went to Casa del Mar in Bayahibe, DR. In our opinion, Holiday Inn cost a lot more and was by no means better than Casa del Mar. The food, the service, the hospitality, the people were all much better in the DR. We felt very safe venturing out on a tour of Santo Domingo han we did taking a shuttle to the market in Jamaica.

If you need further info on any of these resorts, feel free to email me.

Good Luck and Congratulations!
/Sherry

If you want to try all-inclusive in the mid price resorts ($1,200 to $1,600. per person per week - non peak - Canadian $), try:
- in Jamaica. It's not on the beach but they apparently make up for by being the most incredibly romantic all-inclusive for cheaper than Sandals places! So I've heard. (Rats, the name of the resort escapes me right now but when I think of it I'll let you know if you are interested.)
- Jack Tar in St. Kitts. again, not on the beach but a wonderful little place with the best food in the Caribbean and hibiscus flowers abounding around the property. Includes some golf at the adjoining course, casino and activities. also great tours around the island.
- Cozumel (Diamond Resort) - cheaper than Cancun and not the party harty atmosphere - Cozumel is very laid back, more intimate, very friendly, fabulous snorkelling, diving, shopping, laying around the beach and no dressing up!

My husband & I are going to Breezes Golf & Beach Resort (Runaway Bay) 12/10 for 8d/7n. Total price, including air from a small reginal airport (more $$ than JFK (NY) was $2600! If you like golf, SCUBA, tennis, it's all included as well (plus instruction) I know it's not quite as fancy as Sandals, but if money is an issue, it's a steal!

I think the cheapest place to go in the Caribean islands is Cancun .... expect to pay something like $1500 per couple per week for air & hotel. Add another $700 for food. A car rental isn't necessary .... the local bus transit is inexpensive and easy to take. The people are friendly and persoanl safety is not a problem. There are plenty of good choices for dining. The total cost is around $2200 without extras for gifts, and miscl. expenses which is what you could also book a cruise for which is all inclusive. Choice is yours.

Best of luck.
