Little Dix vs Caneel bay

Planning 4 night trip to St Johns or Little Dix Bay and can't decide. High quality resort is important to us - seem to be finding mixed reviews on Caneel's quality. Rosewood Little Dix seems fantastic but worried it's too quiet/remote? Assume their beaches are both equally beautiful (clearblue) and that each have great snorkeling options? Am guessing food is probably comparable but that St John has more offsite option? Any advice would be great!

Caneel is probably easier to get to as it is US and quicker from STT. Little Dix is harder to get to but very nice. Depends on your tolerance level for immigration, customs and less convenient travel options.

I'm ok with extra effort to get to little Dix - only concern is it's too small ( only 1 beach ? etc)

Concern w caneel is that it's a bit more expensive but hotel rooms don't blow me away. Hate to spend thst much on a room that's not amazing.

Thoughts?

We have stayed at both resorts. Little Dix is probably my all time favorite hotel. The least expensive rooms at Little Dix are nicer than Caneel. All have ocean views, and you step out of your room and walk just a few steps to the beach. The Courtside rooms at Caneel, which are the least expensive, are not spectacular. The beach is a long walk, or a jitney ride away. Little Dix has only one beach in comparison to Caneel's 7, but Little Dix will drop you by motor boat (and pick you up) at lots of different beaches, which is fun.

The Baths on Virgin Gorda are gorgeous. However, St. John has a little more to do than Virgin Gorda--more restaurants, shops, and hiking trails.

You can't go wrong with either hotel. They are wonderful.

I agree with Digbydog - we've been to both and LDB is one of my favorites in the entire Caribbean. We've been there multiple times (and we have a home in the Caribbean) and plan on going again.

Yes, it only has one beach but it's a very nice beach. Besides you can easily visit many of the other wonderful beaches on the island, either by car or using their "beach taxi" service.

now, to confuse you a bit - you'll find better "walk-in snorkeling" from the beaches at Caneel Bay when compared to the beach at Little Dix Bay BUT there's some very good to excellent walk-in snorkeling from many of the other beaches around the island.

I like Cannel Bay but I simply love Little Dix Bay.

Are they still sister properties? If yes, they used to have a split week between the 2 including boat transfers specials.

Love both, but also give slight edge to LDB

Caneel is no longer a Rosewood property, so there is not a split week any more.
