Help me plan my honeymoon in Cozumel!
Going to Cozumel in June for my honeymoon. Trying to choose the hotel. These are my options....Coral Princess, Presidente Intercontinental, Paradise Cozumel (all-inclusive), Diamond (all-inclusive), or the Fiesta Americana. We want to stay somewhere really nice since it is our honeymoon. Tell me your experiences of places where you have actually stayed. Thanks in advance!
Also, we want to fish. Can you recommend a good charter?
We want to hit some Mayan ruins on the mainland if we have time. Tell me the best daytrip. I think Chitchen Itza (sp?) will be way too far. Is Tuluum (sp?) worth it?

We like both the Fiesta Americana and the Presidente. We want to try the new Coral Princess, so it will be neat to watch here and see if anyone comments. Must go to Xcaret and swim the dolphins and swim in the underground river - cenotes?! Very cool, but we went in the spring and there were no crowds. Have fun! And don't do all-inclusive in Cozumel! Fishing is great, but snorkeling is better. Saw some huge barracudeas! Have fun.

We have just booked our honeymoon in Cozumel @ The Paradises (All-Inclusive). We are going in July and I have heard that it is wonderful as well as being rated a 5 on a scale from 1-6. This is defintely the place to go if $$$ is an issue. I do have a concern about the comment "don't do an all inclusive in Cozumel"..could you elaborate please! Have fun....capture what you see underwater! Bring an underwater camera!

Re: Honeymoon in Cozumel
My husband and I have stayed on the island five or six times now (going again in three weeks). We own a time share at the Paradisus. A very nice hotel, but I would never do all-inclusive on Cozumel. Too many cheap, wonderful restaurants to explore (La Mission, Prima, etc.). I've also noticed that all-inclusive tends to mean "buffet," which means warmed over beans, tortillas, not much variety. By no means will you have a sit-down, restaurant-quality meal every night. All-inclusive also means expensive. You could take a taxi to town for every meal, eat at the best restaurants and never come close to paying what you do for all-inclusive. As for the hotels, we've visited the Fiesta Americana and the Presidente. Both seem very nice. We visited the Coral Princess on a time share expedition. Very nice rooms for Cozumel, but a very small hotel and even smaller grounds, beach, etc. If you want to get a glimpse of Tulum, Cozumel, Isla Mujeres and the Presidente, they can be seen in the movie "Against All Odds" (where about a third of the movie is set). Good luck. If you'd like more information, e-mail me.

Been to Cozumel twice and we loved the laid back, no-jacket-required type of atmosphere. Diamond Resort has very nice rooms and the best swim up bar I've seen at any of the mid-price all-inclusives! It's also a very short cheap cab ride away from the best snorkeling at Playa Corona. Also very close to Chankanab Park which is a must see and swim. Regarding the comment on the all-inclusive - if you are Canadian, all-inclusive travel is a must these days given the exchange rates and the total package price at the all-inclusives on Cozumel still leave enough for meals and drinks in town when you want a break from the buffet (at Diamond, you also do get a la carte meals as long as you reserve space in the dining room), We met another couple and rented a jeep for the day - we then drove around the island and visited all of the wonderful beaches and stopped at the lighthouse at the very southern tip of the island (you can also climb up the tower and get some terrific views). You will love Cozumel!

We own a condo at Coral Princess.
We stay there for 3 wks every winter. No beach, but that is because their shore is a living coral reef. Some of THE best snorkeling on the island is seen right in front of that hotel.
I totally agree with the comments about NOT going all inclusive. Friends who did this last winter forfieted pre-paid meals and ended up eating in town after the third night of the same old buffet. (Have heard this comment from many others at lots of different hotels) THE MOST expensive restaurant in town (and the most romantic) La CoCay will cost about $50 for two - dinner, drinks, desert, tip. Many wonderful meals can be had for $10-$25 per couple. So much variety, no waiting, no reservations, excellent food. If you want my personal list (put together for friends) of restaurant, shopping, recreation recommendations send me an e-mail. Tulum is beautiful. If you want to see Chichen Itza take an air tour. Fly over in the early morning and back by early afternoon. A spectacular view over the jungle.
Have a great time. Its a marvelous island.
