Grenada hotels

I have "surfed" until I'm blue & can't make up my mind about where to stay. My husband and I are vacationing for 9 days in Grenada in Feb '99. He is a HUGE fitness (weights/bike/run) buff & I like to run (yes, on vacation - ;0)). Any suggestions about where to stay; I have read previous messages that suggest staying away from the harbor area. We don't need anything extravagant (LaSource), but would like something very nice & not too expensive, would like kitchenette in room. Any ideas/suggestions?

I've stayed at the Flamboyant Hotel several times. They have one- and two-bedroom apartments with kitchenettes and a nice view of Grande Anse Bay. There is a grocery store just down the road. As for running, I've seen many people run up and down the road in front of the hotel. It is a dead-end road so there isn't too much traffic. It goes to the end of Quarantine Point and then follows a ridge along Morne Rouge Bay. The part along Morne Rouge Bay is gravel. There are some great views from certain places along the road. Since the hotel is on a hill above the beach, you can get a great workout just going back and forth between your room and the beach.

The hotel has a website at www.flamboyant.com. You can get rate information there.

Feel free to message me if you need any more information.

we stayed at the Flamboyant for a few days prior to a Windjammer trip back in February. It was adequate for a couple of days, but I wouldn't want to stay a week! The rooms aren't any too nice (or clean) and when you go that far for a nice trip, you want better than just "OK". Grand Anse beach isn't anything to get excited about either! (compared to other beautiful Caribbean spots) Check out Secret Harbor--or Twelve Degrees North (I think that's right)--they seem out of the way and out of the ordinary. Sorry for the "downer" message on the Flamboyant and Grande Anse, but I would want to know if I were headed to Grenada!
We were just in Grenada in September for our Honeymoon. We stayed at the Calabash which was very nice, but also very expensive. They did not have a good workout room, and is on a nice, but small beach. We explored a lot of the island, and I would look into Mahogany Run Apartments. They are on the hill leading down to Morne Rouge beach which is a beautiful, great beach. They will have kitchens, and have a great pool also. I don't know the rates. Also, from here you can walk over the hill to Grand Anse beach which is a nice 3 mile beach. Your husband could run on the beach for exercise. Grand Anse is busy with watersports available, Morne rouge is great, but when we were there was deserted. So, in my opinion by staying here, you have the best of both worlds withing walking distance. Feel free to e-mail me for more info. [email protected]

I have heard good reports about Coyaba or, if you want to be more upscale, Spice Island. Both are on Grand Anse beach which, contrary to the opinion of another poster, I think is a very good beach, although it can get busy in spots from cruise ship passengers. Our preference is Blue Horizons, a cottage style hotel a 5 minute walk from the beach. It has kitchens, is very well run, and affiliated with Spice Island. As someone mentioned, the roads along here have little trafic and are runnable. The run over the hill to Morne Rouge should be a good one. Other hotels that have been mentioned are very nice but a bit more out of the way.
