Fantasy Time

Hi All
A couple of friends of mine want to get married on a beach somewhere in the USVI. They will take a minimum of family with them, and after the ceremony would like to hop a small airplane, leave everyone behind, and fly to a nearby island that is not so populated or glitzy for their honeymoon. The only two islands that I have had any contact with down there that might fit this scenario are St. Thomas and St. John.
Anyone have any ideas where they could do this without bankrupting themselves for the rest of their lives? Please list islands, places to stay, etc.
Thanks for any input you have.
shrink
ps: This is the brainstorming stage at the moment, wedding is almost a year off.

Hi Shrink
I would highly recommend the BVI: Tortola, Virgin Gorda, Jost van Dyke or Anegada. Lots to choose from ranging from private villas to small inns/hotels. The BVI are, on the whole, underdeveloped - no high rise hotels, just small properties or inns. They have some amazing beaches which are so romantic, perfect for honeymoons. Tortola is just a 40-50 min ferry ride from St Thomas and then it's extremely easy to island hop from there for days trips.

hi shrink, went to st. thomas to a wedding in june. i stayed at www.secretharbourvi.com Very nice beach. good snorkeling. excellent restaurant. fun bar. dive shop/boat. all rooms are condo style from studio to 2 bedroom. they do weddings and blue moon restaurant does on site catering VERY well. (i gave a shower for the bride on the beach, for which they provided half the food. i have to tell you the cupcakes i special ordered were the some of the best cake/icing i've eaten)
many of the guests and bride/groom stayed at wyndham sugar bay, where the wedding was held on the beach. it is only ai on st. t. beach is ok, alittle rocky. good snorkeling. parasailing from beach. food good. beach is a long way from the rooms. the wedding coordinator was very efficient!
couple left for couples swept away on jamaica. family & friends stayed on st.t or went home.
secret harbour is less $,and kitchens allowing eating in your room. sugar bay one known price.
it may be necessary to fly to san juan/miami to catch commuter flight to next island if its a distance so bvi's or st. john would be perfect for honeymoon. the boat ride to their destination would be a fun start. budget and privacy are what they need to determine. there really are alot of cool very small hotels on the smaller bvi's. st. john has a lot of villas and of course caneel and westin for pampering.
paperwork is easiest in usvi for wedding so advise wedding be st.t or j and not in bvi.

st. john would be a great island to have the wedding on . it's easy acess from the states. family could rent villas or condos. ceremony on the beach? there are enough restaurants to have a small wedding dinner /reception. then.. imho.. the couple should hop a ferry to the BVI"s and stay on Jost Van Dyke.. small, laid back BEAUTIFUL , friendly island.not many places to stay but my 1st choice is Sandcastles resort..also2nd. White Bay Villas and 3rd Sandy Ground estates.the first 2 are on white bay which is really the best spot there. we love going to jost ..it really is a piece of heaven.

Thank you so much for your help. All you guys seem to favor Jost Van Dyke. I must admit I never heard of it. I promise I will check it out. It sounds just like what we are looking for. thanks again.

We are going to St John and Peter Island in the BVI's for our honeymoon in October. I think St. John would be a great place for a wedding and then they could take the ferry over to Peter Island for the honeymoon. Pretty much the only thing on the island is the resort, but it's a short ferry ride to Tortola and Virgin Gorda. They may also want to check out Virgin Gorda for the honeymoon--famous for the baths and some resorts to look into would be Little Dix or Biras Creek. We aren't staying there, but will take a day trip while we are on Peter Island.
