caribbean wedding and honeymoon

My fiance and I are looking for a simple wedding and week long honeymoon in the caribbean. We have never traveled there and there just seems to be so many places to choose from. We are looking for beach front, no children, spa, good food, all inclusive, lots of activities including scuba diving, tennis, kayaking... In our research so far we've seen that Jamaica and Deminican Republic have the best wedding and all inclusive deals. Are we on the right track?

hi climber, tons of stuff to consider. if you go to puerto rico or the usvirgin islands you will not need passports or any special legal marriage arrangement/documents. if you are inviting guests this may be a consideration.
jamaica is not known for diving. however i have friends who honeymooned at couples swept away and choose it because is has a dive-inclusive package. they loved swept away, and i believe it meets all your criteria.
the dominican republic has good prices for ai's but is not generally considered an island where you leave the resort - due to safety issues. this island is seriously impoverished.
better known dive islands are provo- turks & caicos, grand cayman and you should definetly look at the riviera maya coast of mexico (cancun south to tulum) dozens of ai's. great diving/snorkeling. if you stay near playa del carmen you'll have access to great shoppping, restaurants, clubs, etc. (go to the latin american board and click mexico in the countries list to read this recent post- 'trip report girls weekend at royal playa del carman - by beachbum2) this area has all you are looking for plus ruins.
when you go will determine how many kids will be around.
almost every resort in the caribbean has a wedding planner. this is a good choice as they know who to get flowers from and music, will arrange your officiant, set up your site, etc.
if you can give some specifics on your budget and travel dates we can suggest some specific resorts.

When I went to Cap Juluca they had a wedding on the beach each day I was there. Good Morning America did a special on CJ and a wedding there. Anguilla is a great island with super beaches and outstanding food. No shopping but the 3 great resorts all have nice beaches and great food along with an outstanding spa too. Have fun.

Flying to St. Maarten is simple. You can take the ferry or a private boat charter to Anguilla also and fly but the boat was best for me. Take a day trip shopping in Phillipsburg on SXM. Have lunch in St. Martin on the French side.

Hi climber,
I'm the one mentioned who did a trip report on Playa del Carmen, Mexico. If you are looking for an all inclusive place, I'd head to Mexico. We stayed at the Royal Playa del Carmen. It was a nice adults only AI resort with a sister resort next door that you can use. I don't think they had tennis. The food was good, top shelf drinks if you ask. There were 2 weddings while we were there. The town is amazing and fun and right out the door, so you never get bored. The beach is great. They have hobiecats and kayaks. There are plenty of excursions up and down the beach. You can take a ferry to Cozumel.... very nice more on my report. Click on my screen name and you will find it on my posts. Other nice mexico AI's would be iberostar. It's brand new and Mega huge. I've heard excellence is also nice. Keep in mind that you really wouldn't leave those 2 resorts for a leasurly stroll unless you want a 1/2 hour taxi ride. I've heard that Royal Hideaway is one of the best AI's in mexico. It had some beach damage, so I'm not sure how it is now.

thanks for the info. We are looking at going either around christmas this year, or first week of february due to when I can get off of work. We don't care about shopping. We aren't going to have any guests, and I'm trying to keep the cost of the 7 days trip for the two of us to under 4000

Jamaica has so many natural wonders and is a ideal place to get married. So many of the AI's there do a large number of weddings so they they are able to fulfill any special service options you may have and they have such nice amenities. You will love breathing that fabulous tropical ocean air. I really believe Jamaica will work for you.
