Cap Juluca
I am wondering if any of you have stayed here. Sorry that I have so many questions!!!
-How was it?
-Has anyone stayed in the Superior Rooms? How do they compare to the Junior Suite? Do they only have a shower stall (no double tub like the JS)?
-What is there to do on Anguilla?
-Where did you fly in to? If St. Martin, how difficult is it to take the ferry over to Anguilla (and how much is it)?
Thanks for all of your input!!!

Just a note about Cap Juluca room locations....since Cap has become so very popular, they will not guarantee any specific room location, (they never really did, but tried to without saying they did - now they really don't). So do not get your heart set on any "specific" room number or villa location. They have been running at close to 100% capacity, and even opening early this year - Oct 25th as opposed to Nov 1. If you decide on Cap, book as soon as you know to insure your reservation so you will not be wait-listed. We booked this past Feb for this November, and the week was sold out about 3 months ago. Since we are returning guests we asked to be in a specific villa - we were just notified that will not happen as someone has rented the entire villa out. so you never know!
I did not list the Caribbean on line forum specifically because I have found it not to be such an accurate board. Many informative posts are deleted and what is left is a lot of mis information, IMHO. I listed the anguillaforum.com site instead, as I found the knowledgable posters from caribbean on line seemed to have moved over to there. Because you have to register like you do here, you get great info without the stupidity. Just wanted to save you time.

I kow CJ tries to accomodate repeat guests, I usually ask for 2 favorite villas, rooms, and usually get it, I try to not have one favorite villa!
Sandyfeet I find caribbean on line to be a good forum, considering how bad the once excellent tete to tete forum, became a psycho site!!! I just registered on anguillaforum, hoping it will become more active. I forgot all about it! Thanks!!!!!

Hi Penny!
You are going away soon too, aren't you? Is it Cap/Jumby or just plain Jumby - LOL?
I am keeping my fingers crossed with our reservations as I did ask for ground floor Jr. Suite rooms with solariums in villas 11 or 12. Since villa 12 is unavailable I am hoping we get 11. We love the west end of the resort and love the ground floor. I really do not want to be in villas 1-3 as I believe that is where the other Jr Suites are located. I also requested that we do not have the "middle" jr. Suite--well I'll know soon enough!
Just in case we do get villa 1-2-or 3 can you tell me how they differ to 11 and 12? Will we be disappointed?
by the way, I was wondering how long it would take before you got to the anguilla forum - I was waiting for you
- and I'm sure I'm not the only one!

Hi again Sandyfeet! IMHO not much difference as to the junior suite rooms, even though one guest said that
the 11, 12 villa rooms are smaller. I must say I never noticed the difference!
They are set up pretty much the same way. Its been a few years since I have had villa 11-12. To me the biggest difference is the beach, its much wider at the east end, the view of St. Martin is not as prominent, nor is the sound of the crashing waves. We use to alternate each time we went to either end, now we are very comfortable in either villa 2, or 3-definitely not the middle room!!! I do not think you will be disappointed! I do remember the disappointment the first time we could not get the west end, but we became very
fond of both ends. I hope you will feel the same way, but you might get villa 11.
I had always preffered the west end,
post Luis, and Lenny villas 1-6 were
the only ones open. They upgraded us to a junior suite, and the rest is history. I would be happy at either end, and a bonus on the east end is the
afternoon sun stays a bit longer. I should go back to the west end again,
although I liked it better when the beach was almost as wide as the other end!
Have a wonderful trip, we are off in
a few weeks, will do CJ and Jumby! Also
plan to check out new hotel on Antigua,
Carlisle Bay (if I can pull myself away from the beach)opening in late November.
I did book Cjs private charter, not sure what boat they will hire. I did
make a few requests, hoping for calm seas!! It will be nice when they get the 2 new boats!

Gosh! sorry you found COL misinformed and posts being deleted. It is one of the most popular boards and the editor (not the webmaster) does try to maintain a bit of civility which is sometimes lacking. There does seem to be some "reverse snobbery" there with Cap J and despite my staying only at Cap, I've found great information about the unknown and less raved about places that need more recognition.
I guess all the fun of doing the unknown and surprises is gone now that we have the web but it does help build the anticipation and avoids those unpleasant surprises we've all had!

Thanks for the info!
Penny - I am looking forward to your report on Carlisle Bay. I saw some photos on line and it looks beautiful. Are you staying or visiting? Either way, your the perfect person to scope it out
Have a wonderful trip!
We booked a private charter too, we are using Off shore sunsations. I spoke to Jack this week and the "No Fear" cigarette boat will be taking us to AXA at 70 MPH - that's going to be a thrill
can't wait! Thanks Again

Hi again! I am always on the look out for a new place, Carlisle will not be open until late November, so we might not check it out. We hope to try it for a few nights in January, and combine it with Jumby, also check out Curtain Bluff. We use to go to a "new"hotel every year, now we repeat! Have to get out of that mode!!
Your crossing should be fun, let me know how you like it! Are you still getting off in Sandy Ground? I emailed CJ to see if they can arrange to pre clear customs on arrival at Blowing Point. It really is a fun trip. I have done it so many times on the ferry, that
the private boat is well worth the price. I try not to think about it!!!
Now I am sort of planning where we want to have dinner. Our first night will be Mangos. May try Bistro Phils. Skipping Straw Hat, Santorini, as our meals in May were not great, will go to them again another time. Altamer may be back on our list, we love it there for lunch, might try their happy hour. Our home away from home is Trattoria,
I have Alan's CD's playing now!
Enough of my day dreaming, as you can tell I still get excited after many many trips! Safe trip, have fun!

HI Penny,
Yes we are getting off at SG, there will be a cab there to meet us.
I planned our meals too! We are definately going to Olivers and Trattoria, as we have not been to either yet. We are also skipping Straw Hat and Mangos (last year) I think we are also going to try Hibernia and Blanchards this year.
We are starting to get into a rut too. You find a great place or tow and you just don't want to "chance" your vacation. We are returning to another favorite early spring....Biras Creek, BVI

Thanks for all the great info!! Im heading to CJ in December and booked the Jr. upper middle to get the roof access and after reading Penny & Sandy's posts perhaps I made a mistake. Is it better to be on the ends with a solarium of in the middle with the roof?

Relax, enjoy, I am sure you will love the 3rd floor solarium, never heard anyone complain! The guests that I spoke with love it. It is a large very private area. In fact most people prefer the upper floors because of the dramatic views. It will be a wonderful trip. The best part is Anguilla, its magical beaches, dining spots, and lovely people. CJ is the icing on the cake. Enjoy!

Hi Penny and Sandy feet, I so enjoy and trust your comments and experiences, thank you! I have booked a week a CJ April 4-11, we are so excited! Have been to the island twice, love it. I have two questions, I am planning the private boat which I was going to book through the CJ reservations office, is this who you have done it through? Are there other choices? Also, have you been there the week leading to easter, and do you have any comments if so. It was our only choice with hubbys work. We are in a lux room, he wants to take a daily morning swim. I realize the ends would be more private, but I want us both to be happy!! Any info will help, and thanks for the other websites, will check them out too.Carol

For the first time we will be using a private charter. We are using Off Shore SUN sations (I emphasised SUN because there is a sensations). The owner Jack is great. I think he owns the only cigarette boats in the area, so you get to AXA in 15 min. and lots of fun!
The best way to do this is since you are staying at Cap, request their Executive Arrival and Departure Service. A rep will meet you and you give them your passports, customs sheet, airline tickets and luggage tags (Cap will also mail you special ID stickers for your luggage so the rep will spot it easier) and you do not have to do anything, as SXM can be a PITA, you do not have to wait on the long line. This will save a lot of time as SXM is a big airport. After you are cleared, you will go right across the street where the private charters are waiting. They will load your luggage on to the boat and off you go. Jack will ask you to E-Mail your passport info a week before arrival so he can pre-clear you thru customs in AXA, he will do all the paperwork for you. You will be taken to customs at Sandy Ground, and Jack will have a cab ready and wating there for you (he calls as soon as you get into the boat at SXM). If transfers are included in you stay at Cap, you do not pay for the cab, only the tip. It is by far the fastest, and most relaxing way to get to AXA. The cost for the executive service is $35.00 each way ($70.00 total) and the private charter is $600.00 round trip. It's a bit steep, but the other boats are $285 one way, but they are not cigarette boats. for the thrill of going 70 mph with 1050 hp it is definately worth the extra $15.00
I have been told that this is the boats used by all the celebs that are going to AXA. I know we are not celebs, but it's fun for a little while!

Thank you Sandy Feet! I will check out his site. I am interested in getting there quickly, hassel free. It is steep, but sounds worth it. We already had decided to use the boat through reservations, but Jacks' set up sounds great. Thanks, Carol
