Which Hotel is best value??
Hi,

I have received the following rates for Hotels in Downtown Toronto (I'll be staying there for a few weeks in April), and want to know which is the best value. My knowledge of Toronto Hotels is limited.

Toronto Colony $110 per room per night
Delta Chelsea $140 per room per night
Metropolitan $135 per room per night
Grand Hotel & Suites $140 per room per night
Renaissance @ Skydome $100 per room per night
Quality Hotel D'Town $90 per room per night

Thanks for any info you can provide.

David
Before I answer your original question I'd like to ask you a few others if you don't mind...do you need to be in a particular area (e.g. Bay Street area) for your stay? Do you only want a hotel room or do you want a suite-type arrangement? I'm thinking you should know about Cambridge Suites (Richmond & Yonge), Bay-Bloor Executive Suites (Bay and Bloor), Del Suites (around downtown), Marriott Yorkville/Bloor Concierge Level. I would think places would be negotiable is you're staying for a few weeks. Now about your list...Eliminate the Colony, too much for the Chelsea, forget the Metropolitan, too much for the Grand, good rate for the Skydome Hotel, forget the Quality. Where are you getting your rates from? Try Expedia.ca. Are you a AAA/CAA member? May be worth it if you're not already.

Bonnie,

Thank you for your reply - it was very informative.

I got the rates from my local travel agent. I would like to be close to the Eaton Centre, but it's not a must.

I'll take your advice and check expedia etc.

Thanks again,

David
My choice, in order, favorites first, based on several weeks stay, assuming you don't really care about the price.

Chelsea: close to Eaton Centre (they all are except the SkyDome) big and bustling, several bars, a good cafeteria with bright lights so you can go out and have a coffee in the evening and not be locked in your room. Good pool, fitness, etc.

Now I'd stuck. I thought this woudl be easy. The Colony is sort of "just OK" and the Metropolitan is very nice but dull and doesn't have itneresting public spaces. The Grand is in sort of a dull part of town; not that far a walk but nothing to see without walking blocks. I get all the Quality and Comfort In and Choice hotels mixed up, so don't know the one you mean.

Assuming you're a business traveller, you don't want to be completely bored at night.

The Mariiott Eaton Centre and the Sheraton Centre are both more intersting, livlier hotels within two or tree minutes walk of the Eaton Centre, too.

Bonnie's suite idea makes sense, and remember that the Eaton Centre has two subway stops attached to it, so you are only a few minutes ride from it if you stay in the Bloor-Yorkville area.

Back to the Colony: notwithstanding my comments, a friend of my father's lived in the hotel for a decade. He was rich, could live anywhere he wanted, and thought it was a great location.

BAK

Wouln't pick the Holiday Inn on King over the Skydome. Same part of town (not near the Eaton Centre which you mentioned) but the Skydome is nicer and would give you better loyalty points (Marriott Rewards?). Marriott Eaton Centre is a good choice, once again I would try for the Concierge Level. You would have free breakfasts, hors d'oeuvres, advice & reservations for dinners, meet other travellers, & have a place to be besides your room (the Concierge room). What do you think?

Bonnie,

I've just made reservations to stay at the Sutton Place Hotel ($120 CAD per night). I liked the look of the hotel from the website, and the Bay street location also appealed.

What do you know of the hotel? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again,

David
