Looking for nice restaurant to have dinner for my husband and I. Made reservations at the CN tower, but now looking for nice Italian or Seafood or just a nice place to have our anniverary dinner. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks

Hi joan, <BR> <BR>I recommend a great restaurant that is ten times better then the CN Tower restaurant. It's called Chiado, now it's Portuguese, but if you like seafood it's excellent. They also have lots of other fabulous dishes. The service is excellent, it is a perfect place to splurge for an anniversary. It's very upscale, occasionally a few hollywood stars come in because it's just wonderful. It's on College st. It's a very intimate setting as well, I love it there. It's service and fine dining at it's best. Now not to discourage you, but I have eaten at CN Tower and it is not worth the money that you would pay out. I wasn't very impressed at all, but that's just my opinion. Anyway, wherever you go have a great anniversary.

My sister and her new husband visited us in Toronto last September. We hadn't been able to go to their wedding, so we wanted somewhere nice to celebrate with them. Our 2 choices were Auberge du Pommier and Chiado. Both are wonderful. We ended up choosing Auberge because the rooms are so pretty and we thought it would appeal to them more. But if you want seafood (and it's also very nicely decorated), I would chose Chiado.

I agree that Auberge du Pommier is a good restaurant. It has a beautiful outdoor garden and good food. I hope you have a car. A cab ride from downtown to the Auberge is ruinous. <BR>I also agree that the food in the revolving CN Tower is not good. <BR>If you want a view, Canoe which is on the top floor of a downtown office building, is better. It's consistent with its location -- a haunt for business people on a liberal expense account. But you get a nice view, the food's good, and the ambiance is upscale. <BR>I think the best restaurant in Toronto is Truffles, the Four Seasons dining room. It features Provencal cooking. Again you must have a car if you are staying in downtown. <BR>One last idea, is the Moven Pick in an office building in downtown. It's not the Moven Pick's you see all over Switzerland. It's a hugh buffet. Sushi, pasta, fish dishes, etc. all prepared on the spot. They don't have to budget, because its not all you can eat. Individually each thing is good, not great, but combining this and that, it creates a unique experience. Locals don't think of it as special, you see them sitting around eating modest amounts, and reading the paper. But as I say, if you and your wife graze about and share, its an interesting experience.

For great Italian try "Al Frisco's" on John Street!

Another choice is "ORO" at 45 Elm Street near Bay Street (very near the Eaton Centre). While not classically Italian (more Mediterranean) the food is outstanding, presentation superb and the owners (Dominique and Connie) are charming hosts. <BR> <BR>Enjoy your visit. <BR>

The best place is Monsoon. Very adventurous menu, attentive staff and truly memorable. These people love what they are doing and it shows in every thing. Make a reservation! They won the James Beard foundation for menu or space - sorry, I can't remember because it was all great!
