Hello, <BR>I am from Brasil, and I am looking for a special place in Canada to spend a week with that special someone in late february. It is a long, VERY LONG waited meeting, and we need a special place. A small town (not cities),in the mountains, near a forestry (this is very important). We would like a hotel/condo/resort with chateaus (huts?). I mean, we donīt want to stay inside a building, it must be a small house made of wood. Whistler seems to be a good place, with restaurants and shop at walking distance. Price around US200/300. We are both in our forties, and all we need is a fireplace, wine and some fun outside. Thank you all - it is a dream coming true and your help is highly appreciated.

Have a look at Tofino - one the west coast of Vancouver Island. A small town with lovely restaurants, long beaches for walking and in late February the whale migration might have started. That's the good news. The bad news is that it will likely rain ALOT while you're there - but that can be romantic too!. <BR> <BR>Middle Beach Lodge has private cabins <BR>(http://www.middlebeach.com/) for $175 Canadian per night at that time of year. <BR>There's lots of postings on Tofino on this site = search under "Tofino" - also I've topped a trip report I posted last year. <BR> <BR>Good luck! <BR> <BR>Elizabeth

You might check out Red Mountain Ski resort in Rossland, British Columbia. It's located near the U.S. Border half way between Vancouver and the Alberta border. There are several hotels at the foot of the hill. I'm not sure if any of them have individual calets, but it is in a heavily forested area (except for the ski hills. It is a beautiful area. <BR>Another area is Kimberley, equally as beautiful but the skiing is better. Unfortuately, I doubt it has the individual chalet's you are looking for. Both places have a lot of snow, I mean a LOT of snow. <BR>Also you might try Tourism B.C. <BR>The Jasper Park Lodge in Jasper, Alberta is excellent and it may have what you are looking for. <BR>Good luck and I hope you find something. <BR>Mandy

I do prefer Whistler just because it's cozy. The snow on the mountains will also and to the nice atmosphere. You could try skiing or just relax within the village..There are many lodges to choose from.

There are a number of very romantic cabin arrangements near Lake Louise -- it is spectacularly beautiful there -- you can stay in a log cabin with a river rock fireplace & jacuzzi tub -- hike, or go to the Chateau for a romantic and dressy evening or into Banff to walk around the village. It's my vote for THE BEST place for a romantic trip!

If you don't care about the expensive resorts, try the Crowsnest pass area of Alberta. The hotels are not "first class" but are comfortable and the forestry is wonderful. There are many beautiful areas there. You could fly into Calgary and rent a car and drive there in a couple of hours. We have an acreage in the Crowsnest and spend many wonderful days there. A PS to my previous message, there are some small wood chateau's near the Crowsnest that are reasonable. I have never been inside them but do know that they are most reasonably priced and are new and look good from the outside. I would be happy to help you with this.

Hi Julia - well, there's many reasons I spend a lot of time in Whistler BUT a semi secluded, romantic hide-away in a "forested small mountain town" it isn't! It's a frenetic, wild party city for the now generation. If I were looking for an intimate interlude I'd prefer Halycon Hot Springs Resort or ranches in Kananaskis Country or http://www.cathedralmountain.com/ at Field, or http://www.mistaya.com/hillside at Golden or http://www.islandlakelodge.com/html/...lake-main.html at Fernie, or something MAYBE something at Panorama - although that area is becoming the next Whistler (see http://www.highcountryproperties.com/) <BR>All of the above are serviced by local airports or you can drive in from Calgary. <BR>Bill <BR>p.s. if you want to pursue Marilyn's suggestion, take a look at http://www.rossland.com/Accomodations/hotels.html
