Road trip from Toronto to New Brunswick and back
We are planning a road trip from Toronto to Shediac, New Brunswick and back, the first two weeks of October. We hope to take in the beauty of the fall colours, along with seeing many historical and cultural sites. We are planning to travel through Montreal and Quebec City, and will take in Ottawa on our way back. We may do a side trip into Nova Scotia from Shediac. What routes would you recommend and places to see? We enjoy hiking, national parks, as well as historical sites. Also interested in recommendations for accommodations and restaurants. Thanks

You are covering a good part of the eastern half of one of the world's largest countries, so it is a very daunting task for someone to address your questions.
Best to do some research, and then come back and ask more specific questions. There are lots of national and provincial parks to see, so you should narrow it down a bit for us, as to what ones you might most want to see.
Also, what type of budget do you plan for accommodations?
Cape Breton would be a good side trip, and possibly Algonquin Park in Ontario, but you have to do Algonquin on your way east, because the colours are not as good by the second week of October, due to higher elevation there.
