Plaza 500

It is necessary that I stay close to The Vancouver General Hospital during my next visit home to Vancouver. The Plaza 500 was recommended as one of the better hotels in the vicinity. Because I am travelling alone I am wondering if Fodorites agree and if not a suggestion for another hotel or even B&B close by is appreciated.
Thanks.

The Plaza 500 is very nice with large Studio Aptmnt style rooms with Balconies directly accross from a small shopping mall and kitty corner to the City hall. There is a large 12 storey B & B about 6 blocks away equally close to the hospital which is less expensive but with not as nice rooms. I forget the name but can get it for you tomorrow if you're interested. But really if you're looking for quality the Plaza 500 is as good or better than any of the other hotels in the Hospital area such as the Holiday Inn or Ramada.

Hello Gary,
Thank you very much for your response. I have made a reservation at the Plaza 500. You have helped me have one less worry.

You'll be fine at the Plaza, and it is a short 3 city block walk to Broadway where you will find all the restaurants you could every want plus other shopping like London Drugs, clothing stores etc. If you like a longer walk you can walk over to Laurel St. and take the foot bridge that will take you to the waterfront walkway. This walkway will lead you to Granville Island, among other places. You'll also be right at a bus stop to go downtown. The small shopping mall Gary mentioned has a Safeway in it also.
