Niagara Falls in Sept.

We are planning a trip to Niagara Falls for abou 5 days in the beginning of September. I've heard mixed reviews on whether to stay on the Canadian side of the falls or the US. The hotels I've looked into seem very pricey; has anyone stayed near in the falls in a bed and breakfast that they would recommend? Or should we bite the bullet and stay at one of the big chains advertising a falls view? Thanks for any and all input

September should be great. I think the Canadian side is much, much nicer. We've never stayed in a b&b but there are some in the Niagara on the Lake area - just not sure if they are going to be much cheaper than a chain. Remember that you don't have to stay in a place with a view of the falls - you can easily walk there to see them. We've stayed at some nice Days Inn, Hampton Inn type places that are just fine. Also, it could be that you are getting quotes in Canadian $$.

Enjoy your trip

there are also many b&b's in niagara falls canada. the accomodation prices in Niagara Falls Canada are higher for a reason - it is the better side to stay and see with more to do, esp if you are psending 5 days. Given potential security delays at border crossings, do not count on "commuting" between the two sides. I have never stayed at a hotel with a fallsview but based on past posters, it seems pretty spectacular. One option is to split your accommodation between pricey fallsview and cheaper accomodation but it would mean moving midtrip.

Hotel prices in Niagara Falls (Canada) can be hugely variable from one date to another - depending on time of year, how busy, or not, they happen to be, special events or conventions, etc.

The new hotels up on the ridge do have spectacular views. But you get the same view from a nearby street overlook that you can drive to, plus most people stroll the scenic flowered walkway that borders the river and the falls and gives you really up close views of both.

There are several hotels right in the main tourist area but "not" overlooking the falls, including some big chains (the Courtyard Mariott is one I've stayed at - on Victoria Ave, easy walk to falls and everything else). You might look into it or others in that area. I'm sure I've found some kind of Niagara hotel map in past on the web which might help you.

You may also want to consider staying further out and driving to the Falls. Rooms would be cheaper in St. Catharines...

Hi Deb: We are staying in Niagara Falls on Sept.20 and 21 at the Marrriott Renaissance Fallview hotel. Booked on Priceline for $39 U.S. This hotel is rated no.3 on www.tripadvisor.com. I suggest you read the user reviews. Terry
