My wife and I are planning to visit Montreal and Quebec in June for a week. Being first time visitors, we would like to know:

1. highpoints to visit in each city
2. recommendations for hotels in each city ($100 - $150 per night)
3. reasonably priced, good restaurants in each city
4. interesting tourist spots near or between the cities
5. any other bits of information that would be helpful

any likes or dislikes on certain types of restaurants ?

Initially, I would recommend you search this very forum
for any thread that talks of montreal and quebec city,
you'll find a lot of info to start off with.

are you coming late or early june; note that june 24 is a national holiday in the province, lots of closings no matter what day the holiday falls on.

Here are a few answers regarding Montreal:

1) Old Montreal, Ste. Catherine St, Notre-Dame Basilica, The Plateau Little Italy etc etc etc

2) This could be tuff in June as it's high season ty expedia they usually have some good prices.

3) L'Express, L'Academie, Guido & Angelina's, many cafes and fast food places in the downtown core that offere good food at reasonable prices, you should be able to find good stuff easily as you walk around.

4) Near Montreal: Depending on how much time you have in each city and if you have a car you might want to drive to Mont St Sauveur its about 45mins from Montreal they have some outlet shopping and a cute little downtown village, it's nice to spend a day here. There is also Mt Tremblant Village about 1 1/2hrs drive away, also lovely. You might want to take a metro ride to Little Italy and visit the Jean Talon Market, a great way to spend a day.
Near Quebec city: I'm not too familiar with the surrounding attractions so I'm not gonna comment here.

6) If you find a good hotel at a good price book it as summer in Montreal can mean hotels booked to capacity or high prices.
Use the metro/public transportation in Montreal it's a great and easy system that will take you anywhere basically.
Look into what festivals/events are taking place in the city during your time here, there is always something happening in town, don't miss out!

More info about yourselves would help. Museums? Walking? Shopping?

Note that the F1 stop in Montreal is June 8--not a good time to visit unless you are a race fan. And if you are planning Montreal for that weekend and have not booked a hotel room, you will probably be relegated to the suburbs.

jq, I forgot about the busy F1 weekend; rates usually go up the week before.

I must add, though, that the F1 crowd is one that does not overload all tourist attractions, the old port area is quite deserted that weekend.
Crescent street and other partying areas are quite busy though.

So as a tourist , I would not be worried that the museums and churches will be crowded, lol.....

It does affect hotel availability/rates and the more popular restaurants though......

The F1 weekend is often a really fun time in Montreal, even if it's crowded and sometimes higher priced. They have the cars showing on Crescent st. and people are walking around until early morning hours because there are vendors, cafes, stores etc that stay open later to accomodate. If you're into that kind of thing it's a fun time to be in the city.

did 4x days sept 07 Toronto,Ottowa,quebec,montrial.did research on net found the usual comfort ,days inn etc all below $150 incl tax,all with ensuite.also 1/2hr b4 quebec on hwy is a tourist info park,they found us a huge room in the ols city on same day.cheers harold.b

I am planning a trip to Montreal and Quebec City with my parents who are in their 80s. Is limited mobility a problem in these cities? Are taxis plentiful?

there are some "sweet deal" hotel prices in Montreal if you are staying
3 nights in the city. You might be able to find one in the $150/night range this way if expedia doesn't work. Hotel prices really go up starting in June

Without knowing your interests it is hard to recommend what to see. I think the Pointe-à-Callière archeology museum is very interesting, and a good introduction to the city's history. the old Port area is generally lively and interesting in the summer.

The Biosphere at the old Montreal expo site is another interesting place to vist, an eco/science museum in the old Buckminster Fuller geodisic dome.
