Lord Nelson?

Going to Halifax Dec 9-13 for business. The contact there (at Dalhousie U.) recommended the Lord Nelson hotel as a good in-town hotel. It isn't listed in Fodors. Does anyone know about this hotel?

Also, I know to pack warm clothes I will have a free afternoon on Sunday - any recommendations for what to do (I love history, great views, etc.). Considering the Citadel, or one of the museums.

Lord nelson is a fine older style hote, it needs a pick-me-up but is not too bad and has a history. Do visit the old Brewery Market and check out the Maritime Museum. The Citadel is alos interesting and Halifax has some great cemetaries for history buffs.

I believe that the Lord Nelson has recently undergone a major reno. You may want to call to confirm that. The hotel is within easy walking distance of Dal if that is where you will be working. However, if you will be working closer to the waterfront then I wld. rec. one of the major hotels in that area instead of the Lord Nelson. You can find them in Fodors.

Thanks! It does look like the Lord Nelson has been renovated, and it is the closest to Dalhousie. BUT, I think I would rather stay at the waterfront - the Sheraton looks nice, and the rooms cost the same as the Lord Nelson. What do you think?

This is what to do: B/c you are interested in the waterfront book the Sheraton (or something on the water). But remember you will be there in Dec & the Halifax waterfront in Dec, while still lovely, can be bleak. I'd much prefer to be there in July! If you find that you are too far from Dal (it sounds as if that is where you will be working) then you can always move to the Lord Nelson. There may be a lot of Christmas parties booked @ hotels during the period Dec 9-13 but I would not expect there to be a lot of travellers @ that time of year. You could also book the Lord Nelson & probably cancel by 6:00 PM
on the day of arrival if you decide to stay on the waterfront. The Lord Nelson is a short cab ride from the waterfront
so you can check out both areas!
