Lodging in Montreal
We plan a trip to Montreal in May to attend a conference at the Palais des Congres. We would like to stay in a hotel in Vieux Montreal. Any suggestions? Is this within walking distance of the conference or is there public transportation that would be convenient? Thank you.

It's not a bad walk from Old Montreal to the Congress Center, if the weather's nice. Allow 20 minutes or so.
The Auberge du Vieux Port is a very small, cosmpolitan hotel in a restored building. Romantic, but no pool, etc.
In the high-end hotel range, the Intercontinental bills itself as being in Old Montreal, but is really on the edge, but it's the edge close to the Congress Center.
BAK

Hi Bonnie - I've been to two conventions at the Palais des Congres. The last time I was there, this past October, we stayed at the Hotel Inter-continental. It was by far, the best place I have ever stayed, in any city. Not only were the rooms incredible, the service was extraordinary!! It is located in Old Montreal, adjacent to the World Trade Centre, and is about a 1 1/2 block walk to the Palais des Congres. I found the hotel by looking up hotels on the internet under "old montreal". They have quite a detailed web site and when I contacted them through email, I was able to get quite a good rate. The other place I have stayed is the Holiday Inn Select. It is directly across the street from the Palais des Congres in Chinatown. It is only about two-three blocks from Old Montreal. The hotel does not look great from the outside, but the rooms we had were very nice. The amenities are great, also. Both of these hotels are very close to subway stations, great shopping, and restaurants. Hope this helps.

Hi Bonnie!
Montreal is a very compact city. The Old Montreal area is nice but you can visit it all in one day. There are many other nice areas and hotels in the downtown core of Montreal. I visit the city regularly on business. I found a unique hotel suggested by my wife's sister. It is called Hotel du Fort. If you like boutique hotels, that one is outstanding. A real pearl.
Merci! and good luck.
