Yoho is quite beautiful.... the whole area is in fact. We usually make a long weekend around Yoho and Lake Lousie. I think the closest place to stay is Field. There's probably not much more there than one or two hotels though. Golden would give you a better choice.

Takakkaw Falls is a spectacular sight, although the road up to it consists of 3 very sharp switchbacks. It is not recommended that vehicles longer than 7 metres (21 feet) go up. The spiral tunnel is also very interesting, especially if your timing is right and a train is going through. We also enjoyed the natural bridge when we took some of the animal trails and followed the river.

In Lake Lousie, you can't miss the hike around the lake up to the teahouse and the six plains glacier. The gondola is also well worth the trip.

Yoho is a hikers park. If you want to see Takkakaw Falls and the train tunnels, I think a few hours should suffice.

Field is a little place, with not much when it comes to hotels and tourist trap type of glitz. (It ain't Dollywood thank God!)

Lake Louise is not far away, but it is expensive. Banff is about 35 miles or so down the road, with a lot more in the way of stores and hotels.

Unless you are interested in hiking, there is not much to see in Yoho.
If you are interested in hiking, then get back with me. I know the park fairly well, having been there 5 times.
But, I am a hiker who likes to penetrate the remote areas.
Spent a couple of days in Yoho in July. You must, must, must go to Emerald Lake. Gorgeous place to stay but starts about $400/night. Don't miss Takakkaw Falls, the switchbacks are not scary unless you are driving a huge motorhome. We stayed at some cabins just after the turn off for Takakkaw Falls called Cathedral Mountain Bungalows, they do have a website but can't remember off hand what it is. There is only 1 place to stay in Field and it's not great. I recommend either Cathedral Mtn (around $250/night) or why not get a place in Lake Louise (about 20 min away) more in the $120/night range. You should definately go to Lake Louise and Moraine Lake since they are very close to Yoho.
Last summer our family went Lake O'hara in Yoho National Park. While sitting around the fire one evening we asked a local from Banff what the best hiking in the Banff Yoho area was and he said Lake O'hara was it. We have two active kids (10 & 12) who had no problems, and loved it. They rated the holiday as better then Disneyland. I would recomend taking the bus in and tenting from one to four nights. We camped for four nights and it cost us about $100 cdn for fees. I promise it will be the prettiest place you've ever been. The Yoho web site will have all the information you will need. Please E-mail if you have any questions.
