honeymoon

Message: Hi,

I am looking for a very nice destination for my honeymoon in October 2000. I have already travel to Paris, All Italy, Puerto Rico, New York, Las Vegas etc. If I go to the Caribbean it will be cold for my taste, The Alaskan Cruise I wanted to take is not available at this time of year. Does anybody have a good idea as to where to go in my honeymoon?

Oh, PLEASE, figure this out for yourself. Have you considered Niagara Falls and/or Niagara-on-the-Lake/Toronto. There are just SSO many spendid desinations on this planet - SURELY, there's one you'd find appealing...

Allow me to give a friendlier answer. I will presume for your honeymoon you want a place where you can relax (i.e, NOT Orlando or New York, as wonderful as they are for destinations) but have romantic surroundings. This leads to the obvious question -- what do *YOU* consider romantic? Some people enjoy relaxing at a warm, sunny beach; I could not imagine anything I would enjoy LESS. Nothing wrong with either choice, it's all personal taste. So, if you could be specific on what type of place you are looking for, we could be specific on where we think you'll find it.

I would highly recommend Niagara-on-the-Lake, half an hour north of Niagara Falls, in Ontario. It's the most charming (Victorian) lakeside village I've ever visited. The Shaw Festival (see www.shawfest.com) is spectacular. The dining and shopping are superb. The accomodations are varied and wonderful. Especially nice for honeymooners is the Pillar and Post (they have a website) with its amazing SPA. In addition to nearby Niagara Falls, there are lots of wonderful towns to visit and explore. As for Niagara Falls (the "honeymoon" capital of the world), it's not the unappealing "touristy", tacking destination you would believe from hearing or reading about it. The area around the Falls is gorgeous - all designed and maintained by the Canadian Parks Commission. Even the "tourist" areas are done nicely. The weather is nice in October - still warm enough for enjoying outdoor cafes and open air boat rides.

Thank you very much to those who answer nicely. I would love to go to a place like Sandals (sunny beaches and very romantic surroundings.) However, I am afraid that October will not be such a nice time to be at the beach. At least I like it in July and August. I am from Miami therefore I know that even if it is not cold the beach is not as nice as in Summer.
Thank you all for the input.

Hi!

I am a travel consultant and I love these kind of questions! October is a bit questionable for civilized weather in Ontario (think Detroit or Chicago, only farther north) - snow has been known to fly in all months in most parts of Canada. So, have you considered British Columbia? British Columbia is directly north of Seattle, and the westernmost Canadian province - I grew up in the area and I can vouch for its natural beauty and the fall colors are spectacular. It has a lot of the same features as Alaska, but without the cold and October can be one of the nicer months (i.e. little rain) to visit. Victoria is great - very British with afternoon tea, Butchart Gardens, lots of romantic spots. Vancouver is a big city, but the views are spectacular and the big city aspect can be overcome. Vancouver Island, home to Victoria, has lots of ferries going everywhere and many of these little islands have romantic B&Bs and look much like Alaska. Whistler is known as a ski resort, and it will be brisk, but the off-season is the best! Also, consider Banff, Lake Louise and Jasper - west of Calgary - as these places have amazing mountain vistas and tons of ambiance. Have fun and consider Western Canada...it will create a memory that you will not forget!
