Halifax Restaurant Rec

Will be there one night. Have a tentative res at Chives but open to other suggestions. Prefer something more or less casual but with good food...seafood might be an option. Any suggestions appreciated and budget not an issue. Thanks.

It's been a couple of years since I have been to Halifax, but for seafood I have enjoyed the Upper Deck, McKelvie's, and the Five Fishermen.

Haligonians and more recent visitors may have other suggestions.

Dukey--For seafood, I too have enjoyed Five Fisherman and will add Salty's. Satisfaction Feast I thought was a good vegetarian establishment. All centrally located.

Hope you enjoy Halifax; I always do! Daniel

A newcomer to the Halifax waterfront: The Bicycle Thief. It is in the premises previously occupied by Bish. It is owned and operated by the same family, who also operate Da Maurizio (without question one of the best restos in Halifax).

I had dinner at The Bicycle Thief last month. My meal was excellent; the service was perfect.

I have eaten at Chives in the last year as well. I would say the quality of the food is comparable, but the atmosphere is more formal and more subdued. I don't think you can go wrong at either, so I'd choose on the basis of the atmosphere you desire — quiet and formal or boisterous bistro. Both have seafood choices.

Here's the link. You can view the menu as a pdf. If you choose The Bicycle Thief, reservations are a must.
