From Quibeck City to Tadoussac
I am planning a trip in the beggining of July for 4 (incl. 2 girls 15 & 12). I wonder how much time we need to drive easyly from Quibeck City to Tadoussac and how much time it takes to have a boat-tour in order to see Whales there.

A boat tour would take a whole day starting very early in the morning but is supposed to be very nice. By car you will need about three hours from Quebec city where you will drive through the scenic Charevoix area.
Are you from Germany? Because you wrote Quebec as Germans speak it...)

Kerstin

M. Gilad
We just returned from a trip to Quebec City. We stayed twenty minutes east of the city at the bottom of Mount Saint Anne. One day we drove another twenty minutes east of there to the national wildlife reserve to see the white snow geese return to Canada. (Springtime)
Then from there we drove one half hour further east to the city of Baie St. Paul where there is a large community of artists. There too the wale cruises could be found. Unfortunately they had not returned to Canada at that time. They come back with their young in the warmer months. You should be there at the right time. If you wish to email me I will look up the wale watching brochure to get the website. Or you could search for the site yourself under the heading of Quebec -- look for the Charlevoix Tourist Region. They can also mail you a brochure with maps.
Sorry I don't know Tadoussac but the Charlevoix Region starts about 1 1/2 to 2 hours east of Quebec City. Good Luck.
By the way we stayed at a time share resort called Club Vacances Toutes
Saison
Larry

We were in Quebec City in mid-June and took a whale watching cruise. We saw three types of whales, and I think you might see more as the weather has warmed up.

We drove from Quebec City to Rivierre de Loupe (may be spelled wrong), which was just two hours on a freeway from the city. We caught the whale cruise from there, around 1:00 p.m. It was a 3.5 hour boat ride, and we enjoyed it. There was also an early morning cruise, but we are not early risers! In season, there is also another boat scheduled around 4:00 p.m.

One other alternative is to take a whale watching cruise from Quebec City, but it is about a ten hour boat ride and quite expensive because they provide meals.

The other alternative is to get on a boat at Tadoussac, or to catch it across the river from Tadoussac which saves you time because you don't have the ferry ride when you drive up from Quebec City. We were told to allow three hours to drive to Tadoussac from Quebec City, and slightly less if you don't take the ferry to Tadoussac but catch the boat on the other side instead. That boat ride would have been a bit shorter, about 3 hours.

We chose the Rivierre du Loupe alternative because the drive was shorter and the boat ride longer.

There are at least two big whale cruise operations there, and you can pick up brochures for them anywhere in town.
