I thought it was the other way around and that CP bought the Fairmont chain. Our son worked for CP at the Banff Springs so we were able to go to the Princess in Scottsdale and Bermuda. Seemed like they were pleased about CP taking over and they had already started to do some major renovations. They had all the CP logos around the Hotel and even had the Canadian Pacific Club special check-in. We thought the Hotels were fantastic especially the staff in Scottsdale.

We haven't been there for several years, but not only was the service "impersonal" at the time, the place was in need of serious sprucing up. It seemed to us that it was surviving on its reputation (and a piece of one of the cable travel channels that was many years old). I buy the latest editions of every tour guide and visit all the websites regularly, and I haven't seen any mention of any renovation efforts. We've visited hotels "taken over" by Fairmont in the last few years, and haven't noticed any endeavors at any of those places either. Hopefully, someone who's stayed there recently will respond to your inquiry.

Stayed at the Front last October- it had some charm but overall I found the place very touristy-the lobby was at all times full of people(small elevators in those old hotels). The terrace next to the pool had a beautiful view. If I were to go again, I would stay at the Auberge Saint-Antoine- a bed and breakfast on the St. Lawrence-great views-in the old section-somewhat less expensive, lots more atmosphere-the phone # is 418 692-2211. It is one of the most beautiful and quaint places to stay in the area. their web site is www.saint-antoine.com
