Unless you really like scaring yourself, there are lots of other things to do in Vancouver that invoilve heights, but are less scary. I believe you can go onto the top of a big dam near the bridge (you used to be able to, but I'm not sure if access is blocked now) andyou can go up to Grouse Mountain and look down over the city from a parking lot. Then, you can get inside a big gondola, where you'll feel a lot more secure than on the bridge, and go even higher. Think of this as medium scary.
But if you decide to cross the suspension bridge, remember thant people do it safely all , and is better built thant the suspension bridges you see in jungle movies.

You'll find many people on this thread dissing the Capilano Suspension Bridge as a classic 'tourist trap' and in some ways it certainly fits that category. But in fact it is in beautiful setting and there are many things to explore besides the bridge itself. If heights bother you you will probably find the walk accross nerve racking but it's no more dangerous than an amusement park ride and probably much less.
The more popular suspension bridge among purists is the Lynn Canyon bridge - not quite as high or as long but much less commercialized as it's run by the Parks Board as oppossed to the Capilano Bridge being a private company.

Well, yes, the Capilano bridge is in a beautiful area, and there are other things to see there (such as the gift shop)
However, the reason to go there is to walk across the bridge and look down in the canyon. As the Capilano website begins "Your pulse quickens as you step onto the swaying planks..." If you are afraid of heights, this might not be for you. As well, you have to cross the bridge (and return) to get to some of the interesting trails.
As BAK said, Vancouver has lots of other attractions which don't require leaving terra firma.

OH my word it was scary. I'm a little afraid of heights but once I got in the middle some wise guy punk teens thought it would be funny to start jumping on it and shaking it and it gave me the creeps. It took me forever to finish crossing it after that and then I had to cross the darn thing to get back.
Never again but some people just breezed on by.
If you are not scared of heights than do it but I won't again..jeepers

I second the Lynn Valley suspension bridge because it's much shorter than the Capilano so you can get across much quicker. Also, if you don't feel like crossing the bridge again on the return trip, then you can walk around it. albeit a long walk.

i couldn't cross it. but enjoyed watching my family do it until some other punk brats started trying to make it sway (with some success i might add) and i was terrified and i wasn't even on it.
they should have been arrested.. but ...nothing happened at all.
it has a nice lookout area even if you don't cross over.
