Canada Day

We will be in Nova Scotia on July 1 -- is this like it is in America (i.e. stores and tourist sites for the most part remain open, post offices/banks close) or will everything be closed?

Most things will be closed. Some restaurants, gas, will stay open.

Restaurants and bars and tourist attractions will be open as usual. Shopping Centres, major stores, and liquor stores will be closed.

A related question - how much of a holiday is Ontario Day on August 4? Do most people have a day off from work? Are stores closed? Thanks.

There is no such holiday as "Ontario Day" - it is Simcoe Day or Civic Holiday and it is the first Monday in August - this year it does that happen to fall on Aug 4. People will be off work. Some stores will be closed although I would imagine in tourist areas most will be open.
