Can a Local PLEASE help?!!?

Can anyone please tell my specific locations that are dangerous in Toronto or the surrounding area? I'm from Chicago, so I get used to knowing which places have a lot of gangs, violence, and poverty, and you try to avoid the dangerous neighborhoods.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I cannot find anything on this topic online.
Thanks a bunch!!!

I think that most of Toronto is fairly safe - certainly it doesn't have the reputation that Chicago has. Having said that, there are some neighbourhoods that have a reputation. One of them is Jane & Finch, which is northwest. Another is Regent Park, which is east of downtown. There must be others, but those of the ones that are in the news more often. However, I don't think most people visiting the city will be visiting those areas. I live and work in the city - I also live just east of downtown in a lower income neighbourhood, but I wouldn't call it unsafe.

There really are not any areas in Toronto that are dangerous. Even 'tough' areas are pretty safe - at least in broad daylight. I really cannot think of any part of the city I would actually be afraid of going to. Some areas are a little tough looking but actually quite safe. "Jane-Finch" has a bit of a reputation but I have been there many times and never felt a concern. Same thing with Regent Park - and neither of these neighborhoods is in an area tourists would be likely to go.

I would hae to agree with Susan. The Jane FInch area is not the best, nor is Regent Park. I, persaonlly, would never go to either area day or night. But then I don't think tourists would have a reason to go either. Part of Scarborough can be rough, but again it is away from the touristy area.
i think the situation with gangs and poverty is pretty different in toronto than chicago. even as a small female, there is nowhere in metro toronto where i feel i couldn't walk alone at 3 in the morning if i had to. there were a couple of murders recently in the area known as Regent Park, which is around Gerrard and River Streets and is pretty poor, but that's quite unusual, and i don't think a tourist would ever be there anyway. it's an aging subsidized-housing complex and from a tourist perspsective there is nothing there to see.

there was a series of rapes near York University a few years ago, in another area that's generally considered not-so-good, but that is WAY out of town. Keele and Finch, i think. you're even less likely to be up there than in Regent Park.

do not worry, Toronto is very safe for anybody who uses a modicum of common sense.

have a good trip.

I agree with what everyone has said. Toronto, especially during the summer months is a great place to visit. There are always alot of people walking the streets at all hours of the night, so do not be afraid. As the others have said, there are some not so nice areas of Toronto, but you wouldn't be visiting them anyway, since there are not any tourist attractions there. Enjoy our city.
