What must we see and do in the 2 days short visit we will do in March? We shall go and see 1 NHL and 1 WHL hockey games but dont know what to do during the day.<BR><BR>And accomodation? Anyone care to recommend a good hotel, no more than CDN$100 a night each.

Calgary Hotels tend to run a bit more than $100/night but the Holiday Inn on Macleod and about 43rd is quite decent with rooms that have been remodelled recently and runs around $80/night. It is within easy driving distance of the downtown core. I would recommend going to the Glenbow Musuem, perhaps wandering around Kensington, Heritage Park or the Zoo. You didn't say what you are interested in.

Calgary in March can still be winter (really varies year to year) so be prepared. <BR>Things to do: Calgary zoo (one of the best anywhere), Glenbow museum, Heritage park (this is an outdoor thing, though),Olympic park.The Eau Claire market downtown is fun to spend a few hours. Its worthwhile to drive out to Kananaskis (about 45 minutes) and do some of the trails. The Calgary science centre is very good too, if you like that kind of thing.<BR>I stayed at the Delta Bow Valley downtown and was very happy with it. It was around a hundred bucks, but this was a few years ago.I dont know if you are from the U.S., but if you are, bear in mind that our dollar is only now worth about 62 cents US, so everything in Canada is a huge bargain for Americans.<BR>By the way, the WHL folded many years ago- there is only the NHL Calgary Flames now. If you wand to go to a game, be sure to get tickets well in advance as they are often sold out.

You are right-I was thinking of the old "world Hockey Association" which folded.

We drove from Calgary to Kananaskis a few weeks ago and it was closer to an hour and a half drive. Brunch or Lunch at the Calgary Tower is fun - revolving restaurant for 360 degree view of the city.

if you've never been to the rockies, i'd recommend driving to banff for a day. it's only about 1 hour away i think. or kananaskis is very nice too. calgary hotels are very expensive so you'll have to check around to get a good rate. have you tried priceline.com?

I've booked a room in Calgary for 4 days (Mar 24-27) -- got the hotel room through Priceline.com for 45 a night (US$). (normally it's over 100 US)It's the 4 star Hyatt Regency Calgary.<BR><BR>If you choose to bid -- select 4* and Downtown Calgary. There are two hotels which fit that description -- both are excellent. (Westin Calgary and the Hyatt) the 45US should still be under 100CDN

Our favourtie hotel in Calgary is the Sheraton Eau Claire. The service is great, it is only a few years old and the location is great. Right by Eau Claire market, steps away from the river. Often has weekend rates of $129 for rooms that are large.<BR>Enjoy the hockey. Seats are plentiful for the Hitmen games.

I agree about the Sheraton Eau Claire. It is a wonderful place but I always splurge and stay on the gold floor. It is considerably more expensive but you receive free coctails in the evening and a very good continental breakfast in the am. It really isn't continental as we always get eggs, bacon, croissants, bagels, coffee, juice, etc. The Sheraton Eau Claire is the best bargain in Calgary in my humble opinion but it is certainly more costly than what the OP wanted to spend. But for only two nights, why not splurge?

don't know if it is the same sheraton but my sister stayed downtown last weekend & paid $99 for a room with a whirlpool. hotels in calgary are actually cheaper (usually) on the weekends then on weekdays cause it is such a popular business destination.<BR>quite frankly, depending upon your tastes, considering you will be out most of the time and it's only two nights, you could consider super 8, travel lodge, holiday inns (not downtown) that should be under $100
