We will be in Calgary staying at the Palliser Hotel for two nights and one day in mid-September. <BR>We would be very grateful for any ideas as to how we can make the most of this short visit. We are good walkers, and will not have a car. <BR>Also any suggestions as to nice restaurants in the vicinity of the hotel, and what sort of temperatures we might expect at that time of year. With thanks in advance for your help.

It is hard to say what the weather will be like in September. Cooler at night but during the day it could still be quite hot or snowing. So pack appropriately. Visit Eau Claire Market if you like shopping. (Personally I like the Sheraton Eau Claire Suites better than the Palliser - we always stay on the Gold Floor but the Palliser has more ambiance). If you want to rent a car, I suggest going to Drumheller rather than staying in the city. It isn't that far to drive and the museum of Palaeontology is world famous. The badlands are something you won't see anywhere else. Drumheller has an excellent web page. <BR> <BR>Unfortunately, I only visit Calgary to shop so I don't have too many good ideas about things to see. <BR> <BR>

The Palliser Hotel is a beautiful hotel situated within walking to most attractions. If you a chocolate lover, they have a chocolate buffet on Thursday nights. <BR>"Calgary Tower" is next door to the hotel. If you show them your room key, you get free access to the top. Panorama Dining Room in the Tower is a Nice place for lunch while getting a great view of the city. <BR>Fort Calgary: the Royal Canadian Mountain Police original fort is within walking distance. The Glenbow Museum: rated a top museum in Canada is also near by. <BR>We also went to a very good steak house near by, the name was Julius Caesar Steak House. <BR>We were in Calgary at the end of September of last year. The weather was cool and very comfortable for walking. <BR>Have fun.

If you cannot go to Drumheller, at least tour the Royal Tyrrell Museum with your Internet browser. It is a fascinating place to visit. Yahoo search will find it for you. Not that many Tyrrell Museums of Paleontology about.

Hi Prue, All good suggestions so far. I have to second the Glenbow Museum, it's very worthwhile. There are excellent walking trails around the river, and Prince's Island Park is also very nice for walking (it's just on the other side of the river from Eau Claire Market). Also on the other side of the river is the Kensington area. Lots of unique shops, coffee shops, restaurants, etc. Something else interesting downtown is the Devonion Gardens. This is an indoor garden on the upper level of TD Square Shopping Centre downtown. Since you only have one day I'm sure we've already given you enough to keep you busy! Enjoy!

Banff is another option but it's an hour's drive from Calgary - incredible scenery if you've never seen mountains!Calgary Zoo is great, particularly if you have children. Hope you have a wonderful time!

Good suggestions about the Glenbow and the zoo. Both are great. The Glenbow recently had an exhibition of King Tut's tomb (I believe it was King Tut) and it was supposed to be wonderful. You can look them up on the internet. The zoo is great - we used to take our children every year and they loved it. Kensington is also really neat with lots of different and quaint stores and eating establishments. I particularly like the Irish Pub - the food was wonderful (not sure if you can bring children in here tho).
