We are a group of ladies traveling to Fiji for the first time, Can anyone give us an idea of what area is the best for sightseeing, snorkeling, village explorations and boat charters . We have found reasonable accommodations but are not sure which area has the best beaches. We are looking to rent a self contained villa on the water but are not sure which area would be best. To all you Fiji travelers please help. Oh yes will be traveling early June for 7 to 10 days.

I really enjoyed my time at the Navini Island Resort. It was more than I had originally wanted to spend, but was totally worth it. The island is surrounded by coral so snorkelling is at your doorstep. They also organize a variety of excursions every day. Not sure if it's exactly what you ladies are looking for, but maybe it's worth checking out.

When you say you have found reasonable accommodation does that mean you have decided where you are staying? You don't say what age group you are,whether you want to party and kick your heels up or whether that is all in the past ( I unfortunately now fit into the latter group)
I am from Australia and have been to Fiji 3 times.I think you have 2 possibilities. Either,1. you find suitable accommodation on the Coral Coast staying somewhere between Sigatoka and Pacific Harbour. There are boat rides you can do up the Sigatoka river to a village,or explore up the Navua river near Pacific Harbour to the Namosi highlands. There is also some islands just off the coast here where the snorkeling may be better that within the Coral Coast reef. I have found that most of the coral is dead within the reef and doesn't compare with the outer islands of the Yasawas There is also a market at Sikatoka.
2 My choice now when I return to Fiji is visit the Yasawa group. There is a Yasawa Flyer Pass you can obtain for 7 or 14 days which allows you to get off at an island and stay a few days before moving on to another. The pluses for this is that there is a resort on Wayalailai run by the village, the snorkelling is much more pristine, there are numerous resorts to choose from at all different levels of luxuries(or lack thereof) and price, including the Blue Lagoon famous for the film of that name.This may not interest you as apart from relaxing there is not much else to do
Be aware that the outer islands are still mainly ethnic Fijian villages whereas the main island is 50% Indian Fijian. Any unrest as a result of the coup is mainly on the main island. Have a good holiday and enjoy South Pacific culture and hospitality

Thanks for your two very helpful replies Our Ages range from the late 30's to the mid 50's, so our taste vary, provavly a little be of relaxing and partying. We found the Radisson in Fiji had villas reasonably, but we have been trying to find the ideal villa with snorkeling right outside our door, and also have the area be accessible to most island tours. What I am not sure of is how is the water right off the Radisson for snorkeing and swimming, which is why we thought the water would be better for water activities we are looking for around Sigatoka and the Sunshine coast. Would any of you know what the water is like in Nadi. We found a very nice villa in Nadi but we are not sure what the water is like there.

The water in Nadi is warm clean but not good for snorkelling, but the islands just off Nadi are very suitable for day tours from Nadi with good snorkelling. Do a web search of Daydream Iland Fiji,Bounty Island Fiji,and South Sea Island Fiji. I think you can do day tours from Nadi or Lautoka.
