to visit sydney & great barrier reef
I will visit sydney & great barrier reef in october. I have looked at some of the other messages and was wondering two things: what are Kwells and can I get them before I leave the US? I plan to take the Quicksilver the day after I get to Australia and probably will not have time to visit a chemist.
Secondly, I am very interested in the Carrara Market. Is it close to the Sydney Opera House? Is is difficult to ship stuff back to the US that have been purchased at the market? Should I have plenty of cash for the market or can I use a credit card? I appreciate any advice.
Also would like to know of some good restaurants in Sydney area.
Thanks

Hi Michele,
Kwells is for motion sickness. I've never seen it here in the States but maybe I haven't looked hard enough. You might want to check out Quicksilver's website to see if they give out seasick pills. I know when I went out w/Wavelength, they provided pills for free. I'd imagine all the reef operators would do the same; it sure would beat taking care of sick people! Incidently, whatever Wavelength offered me worked better than any OTC motion sickness meds I've ever taken. It didn't make me sleepy and not a moment of nausea--and I'm usually the first one to feel yucky!

Do take cash whenever you go to any outdoor markets. Not all vendors are equipped to take credit cards. Even the ones that are, prefer cash. Sometimes you can even save a little by offering real money.

As for restaurants in Sydney, there are loads. What kind of food do you prefer? What's your price range? I had tasty meals at Sailor Thai, next to the Visitor's Center in the Rocks (ate there 1x for lunch and another for dinner, I liked it so much!) MG Garage, in the Surrey Hills neighborhood, was a cool and yummy place. L41 in the ANA Bldg. was a great place for coctails w/a view. Supposedly their food is 5* but we just had drinks.

Have a wonderful time in Australia,
Debbie

Am not sure what the cost of shipping stuff home would be but know shipping TO Australia is pricey. I just sent out 2 light packages (one weighing less than a pound and another about 4 lbs and spent over $30!) As far as the convenience, no worries about that...post offices are everywhere and many business catering to tourists offer shipping.

Michele,

I'm sorry, but Carrara Market is a looong way from Sydney - it's on the Gold Coast in South East Queensland.

I don't know what kind of stuff you are looking for, but if it's presents to send home, last time we were in Sydney, there was a very nice market on Sunday mornings right on the concourse to the Opera House, as you walk around from Circular Quay. They had nice things at not too expensive prices.

Have a lovely holiday.

Hi, Michele!
Not much for me to add here, as you have received excellent advice. However, just one addition to what Daisy told you: if you don't happen to be in the neighbourhood of the Opera House on a Sunday for the markets out front, don't despair... much of the merchandise sold there is available every day of the week just ten minutes walk away, in the warren of tiny shops called "The Rocks", almost under the Harbour Bridge.
Have a great time!
