Places to eat in Moorea & Bora Bora
My wife and I will be staying at the Moorea Beachcomber Parkroyal and the Bora Bora Moana Beach Parkroyal in October. Does anyone have recommendations on where to eat. I don't want to eat every meal at our hotels, we like to get out and see the local places. Where are the best places to go? Thanks.

My husband and I stayed at the Beachcomber last July for a week. We ate at the local restaurants during our whole trip. I highly recommend La Plantation which is across the street from Club Med. La Tipaniers was not bad as well as the italian restaurant near the Bali Hai. I forgot the name. There's also a restaurant that is on a boat. The atmosphere is very cute, but the food was very overpriced for what you got. For lunch there are a few sandwich, cafe type places to eat. They serve great sandwiches. Rent a car or moped and go to the Toa Supermarche. You can buy wonderful cheeses and pates there to snack on with the fresh french bread that is baked twice daily and delivered to all the small grocery stores on the island. It costs about 50 cents a loaf. We fed the fish our left over bread every day. Have fun!

John, we ate lunch frequently at a place on Moorea called The Spot. It looks like a tin shed with plastic chairs and tables outside, BUT the food was wonderful both in price and quality. The owner/chef moved there from France a few years ago. It is sbout a five minute walk further along than the shopping strip. The other place worth going to is the Sunset Restaurant at the Hotel Hibiscus.
On Bora Bora we found Snack Pauline was very good for straightforward food at only a fraction of the cost at the hotel.
We just got back from a 2 week honeymoon and have definite opinions on restaurants. On Moorea, we found LeBateau the best restaurant and not overpriced at all (as per previous post -especially in comparison to other FP restaurants) and the Tipaniers Italian restaurant marginal but well priced. On Bora Bora, Top Dive was the best restaurant. Bloody Marys is overpriced, touristy and the food very poor. We found, overall, food in FP to be disappointing given the availability of fresh fish and the French influence -but you definitely have the right idea in trying to get out of the hotels!

My husband and I had a wionderful time at the Park Royal. We too like to adventure out and try local fare. The room was so incredible though that we really wanted to be there! The food seemed mediocre to me. I think I am just so spoiled my all the choices we have in Northern CA though! I did make a big mistake though...I ordered Steak Tartare at the airport. Blame it on jet lag..Bad judgement. The staff at the airport concession were very polite, but amazed at my order!!The food at the Beachcomber on Bora Bora is really o.k. though. You are in for a treat starting with your speedboat ride over to the resort!!!

My husband and I stayed at the Moorea Parkroyal in January. The food there was OK and pricey. We liked Les Tipaniers - walking distance from the hotel - the best. Linerava, the floating restaurant, was good, but pricey. A must for lunch is Daniel's pizza, where your pizza is cooked in a stone "fireplace". The Blue Pineapple had very good crepes.

I'm glad to hear The Spot is still there! It was THE BEST place we ate on Moorea, altho the pizza place down the lane (don't remember the name) was very good, too. You can take your own beer and wine to The Spot (and I highly recommend it) -- just remember to get there as soon as he opens or you may have a long wait. It's a one-man operation - literally ... but worth it.

John, Just returned from the same hotels. I agree & disagree with some of the other postings. We loved Bloody Mary's!! Thought Les Tipaniers was ok. Alfredo's (italian rest in Moorea) also ok. Loved The Sunset at Hotel Hibiscus (great wood burning pizza). Heard real good things about Top Dive but never made it there. Enjoy. Jennifer
Hi John, My wife and I will be in both islands from the 6th to the 14th of October, staying at the club Med's, celebrating our 15th wedding anniversary.
What nobody tells us is the range on prices we have to consider.
Perhaps we meet in one of those joints.
