CAIRNS'S ANSWER TO " GONE WITH THE WIND" ACCOMMODATION
If you are looking for a quiet, relaxing retreat in Cairns and you have a car then look no further than ZANZOO RETREAT in Redlynch, Cairns. This is Australia's answer to Gone with the Wind with beautiful tropical grounds, an old Queenslander house ( 2 houses actually) which have been restored and given modern touches. Add to this, acreage grounds, a tennis court, a lovely swimming pool, viewing platform looking over the stream and every little extra you can think of then you have Zanzoo Retreat. The rooms are wonderful with all mod cons and there is a guest lounge room, guest dining room and a modern full kitchen for guest use.
Zanzoo is about 20 minutes from Cairns CBD and altogether has 6 rooms/suites for guests. I stayed in Raffles Hotel, Singapore for 4 days some years ago and Zanzoo is the closest I have ever come to the sort of resort. When you think that you will not have 100's of people staying at the same time then that adds another plus to the whole stay. The website for Zanzoo is http://www.zanzoo.com/ and I am sure that if you tell the owner and mention that you read this report here he will make sure that your stay is made even more special. During the summer months the accommodation is even more wonderful as they have introduced an off-season rate. This retreat is nothing short of a 5 star resort and worth twice what it costs.

Looks a good place Liz, and hope that weather holds for you a bit, 23 probably being even better than 31.
The room rate they show on the website, $115/n for the standard I think it is, is that $115 for the room with two people in it and not $115 for each person?

Hi Bushranger et al.
The rate of $115 for a standard room is for 2 people in the room - which to my mind is terrific value when you have, what amounts to, a resort style retreat.
Update on the weather in Tasmania - is to be 23 today and the flowers are blooming and birds chirping with delight!

Glad you enjoyed it so much Lizzy, told you so! The $115 a double for a standard room also includes breakfast on verandah overlooking expansive tropical grounds.
You forgot to mention that Zanzoo is only a few minutes drive from Crystal Cascades, fresh clear water cascading into swimmable water holes, and surrounded with rainforest and hiking track. Crystal Cascades is only accessible by car, no tour buses or public transport.

I didn't want to tell all the secrets Pat - Crystal Cascades was a little secret of Cairns that I have been going to for many, many years.
Yes I also forgot the breakfasts too - sorry folks.
