Brisbane stay in city or coast
We are travelling to Brisbane in October this year. Please would you advise if we should stay in the city or stay at the coast. We will be there for 4nights. Please would you advise places to stay. We would like to visit Fraser island while we are there.Any other suggestions of must see attractions would be welcome.

This is a good site to give you an idea of what's available.

Suggest you have a look at the serviced apartments. Much more spacious than traditional hotel rooms, and have full kitchen and laundries.

We were in Brisbane last January for 4 nights, although mainly there to meet family we stayed in serviced apartments (The Sebel Suites) and thoroughly enjoyed getting around the city. The serviced apartments were fabulous, own washing machine, loads of space, a huge balcony, and access to a swimming pool and gym. They were also convenient for some great cafes for breakfast. It was a lovely, chilled and relaxing city with transport based around the river. The City Cat is a great service, you can buy day tickets which are excellent value. We would hop across the river on the City Cat and we visited places like the Breakfast Creek Inn (great steaks), Newstead House (nearby) and just enjoyed the views. On the beach side of the river are a number of great places to eat.

As your post indicates you´re planning to be in Brisbane for 4 nights, I assumed you had a reason to be there, in which case I would recommend staying in the city. If Brisbane is a jumping off point for 4 days of sightseeing, then probably mix it up a little. Brisbane itself is a charming city, with a relaxed feel, some excellent restaurants and an attractive river development, to name just a few of its attributes.www.VisitBrisbane.com.au
You mentioned a trip to Fraser Island, I´m assuming you know that´s a 6 or 7 hour drive, depending on which road you take.

Most people either stay on Fraser Island or somewhere nearby overnight. www.fraserisland.au.com
If you go to Fraser Island, you may wish to visit Australia Zoo, which is on the way and about an hour´s drive from Brisbane. www.australiazoo.com.au
There is a broad range of accommodation along the Sunshine Coast, which is the name given to the area between Brisbane and a little north of Noosa. Check it out on the wotif link I posted earlier.

Fraser Island is 250km north of Brisbane. It is a fascinating place to visit but there are no bridges across Hervey Bay -- you need to go by boat from the mainland. Best accommodation on island is at Kingfisher Bay Resort at the northern end. Ideally, hire a 4WD and bring across camping equipment.
There is also accommodation on the mainland at places such as Rainbow Beach.
If you stay in Brisbane, the river ferries are a good way to get around. Public transport is very cheap.
Brisbane is a small city on the Brisbane River. It is a 1-hour drive from the Gold Coast (south)with beautiful surf beaches and abundant hotels and other self catered accommodation sites. Or, go north as suggested by Bokhara2 to the Sunshine Coast.
