5 nights in Tasmania for a romantic reunion

We plan to spend 5 nights in October in Tasmania on a relaxed romantic reunion after 25 years apart. We are in our very late 40s but both love fun but in this case would like both fun and some privacy. I am tasked with planning our time in Taz as my partner lives in Africa and I am in New Zealand. Can anyone help with ideas to maximise our time. We intend to meet in either Melbourne or Devonport.

Lovely time to go to Tasmania. I was there in October last year and had a fabulous time. What kind of things do you want to do and see and what sort of activities to you like. As you are in NZ then I suspect you would like something different from what you are used to i.e. mountains ( or hills to be exact as far as Australia is concerned0 . Let us know you likes and dislikes

For a romantic reunion, I'd book a spa suite at Cradle Mountain Lodge. The accommodation consists of cabins scattered across the property so there is a very high level of privacy. There are great walks in the area and it's very beautiful.

Thanks ivenotbeeneverywhere and susan7. I've just checked out Cradle Mountain Lodge and it looks great. Will definitely consider it. We are both very active people who love the outdoors. We both love wildlife. Time on the beach is also something we would love to have. We both love walks in the bush. We would like to avoid noisy places and for my partner's sake we would like to avoid any bars or watering holes. And of course, quiet self catering cabin accomodation along the Cradle Mountain Lodge line at reasonable rates.

A King Billy Suite at Cradle Mountain would be just the ticket.

Second the King Billy suite at Cradle Mountain Lodge! Lots of little, special surprises and nice romantic touches there, or go for a spa suite if the King Billy is too pricey.

If you fly into Devonport they will pick you up and transfer you to the lodge, or get a hire car and it is about an hour and a half drive to the Lodge.

You could split two/three nights at the Lodge with two/three nights at a beach - others may have some suggestions about the beach part.

You could try Freycinet Lodge, on the east coast of Tasmania. It's on the water - and has a beach - but it will be too cold for swimming.

We loved the lodge, and there are varying levels of comfort.

Thanks everyone for all this very helpful info. Was wondering if anyone has been to the Silver Ridge Retreat? Any comment in relation to our intended vac?
Thanks

If you find yourselves in Launceston, dine at Fi and Me. It is very romantic and worldclass food/wine pairings.

The cabins at Cradle are definitely cozy, but we were overwhelmed by the dining room. It was a huge disappointment after all the wonderful hiking we did while there.

If you are interested in self-catering, look into the beautiful stone cottages http://www.piermont.com.au/display.asp?entityid=1451 across the water from Freycinet. Our stay there was one of our favorites out of a month in Australia/Tassie. It looks as if they have added a restaurant and possibly more cottages. Our cottage was directly on the beach and we were the only people there at the time. Bliss.

I meant to state that we were underwhelmed by the dining at Cradle Mountain.

I agree with PJTravels about the food in the restaurant at Cradle Mountain Lodge, pricey and not very good. However, the food served in the bar area in the same lodge is good, plus it's much cheaper.
