That is really high season in Goa. There will be tons of tourists there for the beaches and warm weather, so plan accordingly.

Goa is pretty small, so you might want to just stay in one location, then get a driver to take you to different sights.

I can't really help you on specific things to do, as we were there in June for a wedding at the Marriott Hotel in Panaji. I was told there were some interesting sights, but we mostly just walked around and did some shopping in town (our airline lost our bags for 3 days). It was a nice town, but I don't know that I'd love it in December, from the descriptions that locals gave of the crowds.

I divided my time between Panjim & Anjuna and thought it worked quite well. Be sure and spend at least a couple of hours in Velha Goa (Old Goa), not far by taxi to the east of Panjim. Do read up on what you might see there before you go. The area isn't huge but packed with fascinating buildings & history.

Hi Anjali,

Goa will be very crowded during new year's. You could stay at one place, rent a 2-wheeler and explore the rest of the Goa. You could stay somewhere in the middle to North as well as South Goa if you don't want to commute much. Coming to the places, along with all the beaches in North & South Goa, you could visit places such as Fort Aguada, Chapora Fort, Churches etc.

We had stayed at Vivanta by Taj, Fort Aguada. You could read more about our experience here:

We had also put up some pictures of Chapora Fort in our Instagram handle. Do check it out.

Have a safe and fun trip!

The touristy part of Goa is really quite small - but the province as a whole is very fascinating and fun. One of my all time favourite places to visit.

Choose either Panjim (Panaji) or Mapuca as a base (lots of nice hotels) and then hire a driver to take you around and bring you back each day. Nowhere is far at all. After a couple of days, you'll get the gist of it and find a coastal village or town a short distance from your base that will appeal to you and provide accommodation to your liking for you to say for a few nights. There are many such places with good accommodation including Vagator, Anjuna, Calangute, Benaulim, Agonda, Canacona, Varca, Candolim and others.

Christmas and New Years is the busiest time (and also the time I love to go... for the culture and food!) but is also the most fun. Lots of entertainment and general festivities everywhere.

There are lots of interesting things to do and see in Panjim and Mapuca as well as in the coastal villages, but the latter are best sent relaxing and enjoying the beaches and warm ocean. Visit a yoga retreat centre for a delightful experience, go the the Falls (Dutsagar) and enjoy the fantastic food.

Hi Anjali,
Goa in the month of December welcomes a huge number of tourists from around the world. I have been to Goa thrice. If you love shopping and night life, then North Goa is the place for you. Select any hotel which is close to the beach. In the year 2006, my family had booked the stay at a hotel which was a few minutes' drive from the beach in North Goa. I guess it was Candolim Beach. Our stay was really good!

In the year 2014, I went to Goa with my colleagues again and that time our stay was again in North Goa, in the month of March. Property was The Acacia Hotel & Spa near Candolim beach. But I absolutely loved my third trip to Goa which happened in the year 2015, again with my colleagues, and our stay was in South Goa at Planet Hollywood which is right on the beach.

South Goa is quieter and is less crowded as compared to North Goa. North Goa has many clubs and Saturday Night Market is another attraction for people who love shopping. You get to buy a lot of stuff. On the contrary, beaches like Uttorda and Palolem Beach in South Goa are serene and scenic.
